Everyone harping on her for thinking of her late husband when she sees him, don’t you guys think maybe he actually reminds her of her husband based on his attitude and appearance? That doesn’t mean it’s unhealthy.

She has started to see him more as a man - and she sees some resemblance to her late husband too.
In other words...progress!

@alacaelum What life baggage? Does she seems like a mentally unstable person? They are like made for each other since she likes cooking and he likes eating. Their interaction has also been extremely smooth so far. Of course the interaction is made easy by having a very simple relationship, but at least it's still a positive starting point, not negative. It's not like every person who lost a husband or wife in this world was ruined for life till death. I reckon the biggest obstacles would be elsewhere, like Yakumo only viewing him as a kid, which he indeed is, being a high schooler.

@Kyonne

I don't know about the rest of the world, but most of the rice cookers i used in Japan took around 1 hour to finish (and this is on top of rinsing and soaking the rice for 1~ hour'ish as well)
My shitty and decade old rice cooker finishes in 15-20 minutes, but it has literally no settings other than "ON / OFF"

@Kaarme Been a nearly 30 widow that still grieves a little for her late husband isn't life baggage to you? To me the way the author has characterized Yakumo-san she clearly is a little too much for a 16-17 year teenager and just because she likes cooking and he eating doesn't mean romance, to her he just a cute boy that gives her the satisfaction of eating her food.

But don't get me wrong if you like the ship... ship away, i don't intend to fight anyone about it, all of this was just my opinion using a little of reality goggles, nothing more. And before someone says that this is a manga and not reality remember that the author made this as a slice-of-life, so it is grounded on reality.

@alacaelum yup, you're very much on point with Yakumo's characterisation.

The story so far has been very much a mother-son relationship where Yamato is helping Yakuma move on from her husband's death. You don't move on from the death of a loved one.... by falling in love with someone else especially WITH A KID -_-

I mean, is Yakumo is even ready or open to falling in love with someone else as she still wears her wedding ring and her shrine to her husband that she cares for and "talks to" her husband sometimes? And even then, is she even a person who is okay with being with a much younger partner?

If people stopped self-inserting into Yamato and being desperate for Yakumo to love them, it's clear to see that cooking, caring and spending time with Yamato is helping Yakumo by keeping her from being lonely as well as bringing back the joy she had for cooking that she lost after he husband died (as we saw in chapter 1).

That's the actual progress of this manga: Yakumo moving on with her life.

There has been zero hints at romance from Yakumo's side, so it's just baffling that there are ppl saying they are already a married couple, get married already, perfect for each other, he's in, kiss already and blah blah.... like what are you reading? :/ is eating food = love now? like wat? -_-

@alacaelum I only commented on your point about her life baggage. I'm not entirely sure myself about any romantic relationship. While I much more prefer younger guy + older woman as a setting in manga/manhua to a younger girl + older man, this is indeed quite a realism based story, so it's harder to ship those two. Realistically speaking most adults would prevent themselves from looking at school kids romantically. So, don't put words in my mouth. I only said she hasn't got any unreasonable baggage if the mangaka decided to start something. She was stuck on her late husband simply because she hadn't got anything else going on in her life. However, you can see she's nowadays thinking of her husband less and Yamato more, including the scenes where she's thinking of them both at the same time. That's healthy progress toward moving on from the dead people.

@Ixiaz That rice better taste better than gold because holy shit a whole damn hour? I mean i'm no chef or anything but i'm pretty happy about my rices made in a regular pot for about 10 minutes, i mean Jesus Christ, an hour! Plus preparation! Last time i've seen a rice taking this long was when we prepared rice for sushi.

I feel like the author may be using the increased overlap of Yakumo's deceased husband with Yamato as a way of showing her increasing feelings towards him, despite not realising them herself. She's been having those nostalgic feelings more and more lately, and that's probably meant to be an indication of his increasing importance to her.
That said this romance sure is s l o w.
