No. Body enhancement and mana manipulation are foundations for all other magic. Yes making your own spells is great, but to do that you need a foundation to build on. Learning how someone else tweaked a spell so that you can use that knowledge is how you build up more options.
If the MC just gained spells from nowhere he would just be OP for no reason. Humans build off shared knowledge, that is how we advance and make new things that have not been seen before. Your putting the cart before the horse saying why bother learning basics.
