I don't see, why everyone fell in love with that money-lander. Sure he is reasonable, but he is dealing with aristocrat. If he wouldn't be calm and polite, he would be soon out of business. He didn't want to give those books to her, but gave up, when he noticed he'd lose out, if he didn't agree to her conditions. The remark of her being wasted on that duke-child was also rather mean, even if true.
The fact, that he lend money to somebody with gamble debts (picked his client in a casino) also doesn't speak in favor of his character.
What I see here is still an evil money-lander, but given with manners.
And as I do not possess any manners, let me say, "I WANT THE NEXT CHAPTER! NOW!!!!"
