Just binge read all 226 chapters (very stupid of me I know) and I gotta say literally everything nosedived after about the first 80 chapters.
now while I could and want to complain about how boring and annoying the constant twatswatting and needless distractions are, how incredibly dull every first year character introduced is and how much I wish they never showed up again cause they provide nothing of value, and how stupid the main character is the main concern I want to speak on is how there’s literally no one in saotome’s corner.
Yes, saotome has like 20 chicks practically salivating at the chance to turn his pelvis into powder but he has zero genuine support from any member of the cast, takae, the staff, his seniors, itachi, his parents, his childhood friend, even hanako, yeah sure they all like him and appreciate his efforts but Christ do they not give a damn about guiding him or holding him accountable, 200+ chapters and he hasn’t budged a goddamn inch while everyone around him at least has 2 character developments by now, The only one who kinda tried to bridge that gap was takae on the second summer trip (props to her) but she and everyone else essentially have made zero attempts before or since to actually shift this blockhead’s perspective and improve both his social skills and empathy. This could’ve been the role of the new first years, they all had potential to naturally fit into supporting roles for saotome and/or the heroines without being obtrusive time-wastes but I guess they just had to be love interests/background characters in a plot that already had too many so far, everyone wants to be his lover or his wingman but barely anyone is interested in being his friend.
To finish, I don’t really care who he ends up with, it’s obviously gonna be hanako because duh despite yuna & takae being the only ones putting in any effort to actively get close to him since the Valentine’s Day arc but to say I look forward to what will probably be an incredibly stupid confession scene from saotome would be a lie, praying they don’t introduce another set of obnoxious first years when the author gets around to making the main cast third years and if either takae starts pursuing girls or hanako and saotome throw hands for any reason I will take back everything bad I said and clap for peak fiction.
trashy gimmick manga it may be I liked when it had something entertaining to show me, maybe if/when I come back to this series in a couple months (I pray to god it’s over by then) this comment will be a testament to how goofy I am because the author will actually move the plot forward
