I think it's inherently confusing because feudal Japan had two types of nobility : the court nobles (
Kuge) and landholding warrior nobles (
Samurai).
There's not really a Western equivalent to this distinction. (Unless you'd accept the distinction between "feudal nobles" [e.g. dukes, counts, etc.] and "church nobles" [bishops and abbots] as an analogue.)
So I think what Vector is getting at is that he stopped being a court noble and became a landholding noble instead. Not easy to fit into a text bubble, I'd assume.
I suppose they could have written "I became a
peer instead" or something of the sort.
