How big are Norn and Bell? Norn is about as big as she looks in that sleeping page: aka FUCKING HUGE. Bell is about the size of a regular wolf, despite the manga artist making him look like a tiny puppy most of the time.

Very few manga artists are knowledgeable about castle construction.
It's also why you never see any other features of real castles outside the occasional moats and bridges, or a rampart if you are lucky.
Heck, even battlements are rare, and they were an integral part of why the towers on the walls existed in the first place and don´t get me started on the machicolations...
the smaller details like murderholes and arrow loops in the gateway is understandable if you never actually see, but the gateway itself is usually too poorly designed for it them exist anyway.

There are plenty of an hour or more long videos on youtube about the subject if your intrested.

If they are tool users - and if they're wielding weapons, that's pretty obviously the case - it's basically cannibalism.
