If you meant pg 4, I think you misunderstood. The one that has a girlfriend is the girl.

The girl: oh, but you now have a boyfriend.
The guy: yeah, but we broke up. You too (broke up), right? I saw you had a girlfriend.

That's why the girl said "Dating is hard, regardless of gender."
Basically, even though they could finally date someone of the same gender, that doesn't automatically made their relationship successful.
