non magical ones aside, i assume normal stovetops exist at least for inn keepers/taverns/bars/etc even if a regular non combatant 'commoner' citizen wouldn't have one unless they all cook in some fireplace/cauldron for soaps and just serves bread/jerky

Earliest recorded stove was created in 1490, but the pictures of it look closer to a pizza oven than a modern stove; otherwise, things like stews were done over an open flame.

The earliest recorded instance of something we might recognize as a stove—a cast iron stove—was in 1642. So, historically, the magical stove MC had Lil make him would likely be about 100-150 years beyond the tech of the age.

yeah i guess it's part of the appeal, but other than super futuristic ones with mechs, even with the 'fantasy' appeal, it'd be interesting if it more or less was still an isekai in modern times or so just so ppl can have cars and proper plumbing lol, but still have magical elements and elves and such

Tho i imagine other than focusing on traveling and cooking, maybe he'll get a 'patent' for it and get a lot of royalties

But those were basically enclosed fire pits with an opening at the top for cooking and one at the front for inserting fire wood, also the temperture control was not an accurate thing as it was mostly controlled by the amount and height of fire wood and later air control.

So the one they developed would be closer to more modern gas stoves as the design implies a fair bit of control.

Stoves actually weren't a thing historically. Benjamin Franklin was the first one to invent the stovetop/oven combo in the 1700s. Typically houses wouldn't have much more than a firepit from which they would use a frying pan over.

He is used to the impeccable products of machine manufacturing. A factory can churn out miles of insulated wire that is uniform and without flaw, or sheets of glass without distorting imperfections. It can also produce a million drinking glasses every month, with only a few that are out of spec. And so he would expect a frying pan to have a perfectly flat base of uniform thickness for even heat transfer.

But didn't they say earlier that those magic things need the user to also have magic power to use them?
So how is MC going to use that stove??
I also would not call somebody who likes to experiment (and makes stuff that goes nowhere) a genius...
But oh well, that wouldn't help with making MC seem 'even more brilliant' than this Lil genius.

So they have sauces and such, like soy sauce... but they haven't invented simple cooking knives, or flippin' frying pans? :questionblob:

A bit annoying how Shuri is elevated by making the "genius" Lil an idiot prior to meeting him.
A regular modern day guy would blow the minds of anyone in the middle ages with there knowledge even if its basic education

"For the first time, I feel like meat is truly tasty."
You may be Best Girl, Lil, but you still better shut your shame hole.

Stoves made out of brick or clay with flat tops made of clay or metal as a cooking surface go back to antiquity. They became common enough in Iron Age Rome to be used by street vendors, especially after they made it illegal to cook your own food at home if you lived in a multi-residence tenement as a fire safety measure.
