Heck, most countries are annexed by their larger neighbors in this world. "Germany" here starts out with the entirety of Austria, Czechia, Switzerland, modern-day Poland (presumably much of which is disputed with "Russia"), the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg (the Low Countries presumably being the disputed territory in regards to "France"), Denmark (disputed territory contested with "Scandinavia"), and even Hungary and Slovakia (contested with "Romania") and Slovenia. "Russia" gets its pre-WW2 Soviet holdings in light of this, and "Italy" seems to have gotten the rest of the Croatia, which would probably make "Slovenia" disputed territory in regards to them. Not exactly the place for the small, plucky underdog nations of irl history (especially as "Romania" - Dacia, mostly just served to get pwned and annexed). There is a sorta Yugoslavia, tho, that includes Bosnia to Bulgaria (minus Montenegro, presumably taken over by Italy) based on the chapter 14 map, so who knows how they'll fare.Been following the news out of Ukraine for so long, I winced when I saw Russia controlling it on the map in the chapter. I know they separated much later than this part of the timeline, but it wasn't great to see.
Also means that the incursion to Moscow was much deeper into enemy territory than I thought.

We are dealing with a fictional version of Russia in the first half of the 20th century, so Ukraine being part of Russia should hardly surprise anyone even outside the framework of the above-mentioned conquests. It was so common at the time that many Russians and even Ukrainians still cannot comprehend that Ukraine is now a separate country.Heck, most countries are annexed by their larger neighbors in this world. I mean I had brought this up multiple times that they changed upload groups at least 3 times, 1 was direct change, 2 times it was because of drama and 3rd was going to be me saying "welp time to fork over USD to read this since batoo is further behind this."I find myself thinking that the idea that some manga has stopped receiving updates not because of the situation with the attack on the site these days seems like a relief.
Yeah. Now I remember with irony that the infamous attack on the site happened the day after the translators of several titles (including Tanya) responded to me in the style of "if nothing special happens, we'll try to catch up with ongoing this month.I mean I had brought this up multiple times that they changed upload groups at least 3 times, 1 was direct change, 2 times it was because of drama and 3rd was going to be me saying "welp time to fork over USD to read this since batoo is further behind this."
Thankfully that was not the case as Danny gave me a reply on chapt. 90's thread personally about what was going earlier in the day before yesterday AND told me as a fyi. Everything that news13 said here is what Danny said to me so I'm content (side note, at least this time it wasn't site upload purges) 😅
More waiting but this time Sept 5th yaaay, it won't be another 2 months behind this language or more months behind that one and yeah the patreon is up to 108 afaik so I'm fine if it's up to 105.
There's no reason to be surprised by this when even Russian/Soviet anti-communists themselves actively spread these stereotypes in the late 20th century and beyond. Remember Mikhalkov's films, where Soviet soldiers storm an armed German bunker with shovels and pitchforks. I don't know if this was in the manga before, but I wouldn't be surprised if Zen also somehow cites the stereotype of the NKVD blocking detachments that supposedly didn't participate in battles, instead primitively shooting hundreds of Soviet soldiers.Obviously this is a fantasy word, but given how much it borrows in aesthetics & early war tactics from WW1, and in politics, equipment and elements of strategy from 2, it is amazing how many of our real life misconceptions about the Soviet army made it into the Federation.
Now, I'm not sure what extent of her dialogue is meant to be taken as factual information, or just her own biases, but just to address the 2 biggest elephants in the room:
The myth about a lack of rifles is originates from a very, very small number of such situations irl and the one Stalingrad movie. Please note that none of the situations remained unaddressed for long, and they did not involve units any larger than a single battalion. On the contrary, for most of the war the Soviets enjoyed a marked advantage over the Germans in terms of personal firearms, especially when it came to production of submachine guns.
Two, the Soviets did not obtain a 2:1 advantage over the Germans in terms of manpower until Kursk, and a 3:1 until early 1945. Their primary advantage lay in fire-support, particularly artillery, mortars and anti-tank guns.
