If the source is offered free (paid in ads), I won't read it from a site such as mangadex or any other 3rd party. Even if a fan scanslator is further in the series than the official. I try to respect authors that much at least. Webtoons is the biggest example of this, I avoid reading any of their content 3rd party, but webtoons isn't the only one. I figure if they're going to give us a "free" outlet anyway, there's little to no reason not to take it up. That said, the one exception I'll have is if the official is just awful with the translation/localization. I'll go give the official link a click if I remember as well, but I'll be reading the fan scans if they're just objectively better.
Otherwise, while I don't typically buy the manga themselves, I do buy other merchandise related to the series I enjoy (Tshirts, keychains, art books, etc). I'm poor af, so I will openly admit I'm mooching off pirates and reading content I don't deserve, but, forgive me. This is one of the only "hobbies" my crippling depression hasn't sapped all the joy out of
. I support when I can.
