I stopped reading Dress Up Darling to read this and do not regret my decision

Sugar overload. This was a delight to read with a great ending to boot. Thanks for scanlating. Kinda short but they didn't drag it out and they showed their family at the end. 9/10 for me.

Sure you care about the characters more, but when mangaka's have to string along the series because it's making them money, they get into weird situations. Case in point, when the popularity starts to plummet, the most common thing for the mangaka's to do is to do the quick wrap up. They know the cash cow is over, so they quickly finish the story in one or several chapters. Dress Up Darling, Komi, they suffered that fate. Unsatisfying endings, because they had to do it while they still had some sort of audience after they milked them. And some of the times it's not even the fault of the mangakas, the series went on longer than it should have because of the producers/those with the money. At least this one had a decent run. The others which had long running, years going by, and fans expecting more but not getting it yet they get a quick wrap up. Nobody wants to be known for an abandoned series if they can help it.

Especially when they are both showing clear interest 15 chapters in. Much rather spend my limited reading time on something short and to the point. Or ideally something long running like Chivalry of a Failed Knight or Sweat & Soap where the relationship is started within the first arc.

It's just that at some point they stop being romance romcoms and just start being cash cows. That's the problem with success. And also a problem manga creators face, that if it's too popular, they'll be pressured by their editors to drag it out to make more money. It's either that or they might face blacklisting for refusing to do business. So if it takes off big time when it's still going, that's usually what happens. Like, an anime in the middle of the manga run is a big indication of that. Though that happened with Sailor Moon. The Sailor Moon manga had like 60 chapters, while the anime had to do the dragging on with filler in 200 episodes and I believe 3 movies. And that was so explosive that they did the anime in the middle of the run. The filler happened so the anime could keep pace with the slower manga. Though the same thing happened with Sailor Moon. Things started to die down so they ended things. It is what it is.

Every fucking time. THE CONFESSION IS WHEN THE ROMANCE FUCKING STARTS AUTHORS. YOU AREN’T IN A ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP BEFORE THAT FOR FUCK SAKE PLEASE.

I wish it was a 50/50 but it’s pretty much 90% of all “ROMANCE” manga skip past the “ROMANCE”. When you do get the rare manga which show more than a single kiss, they are almost always amazing.

in every other Manga type being young means you can pilot robots, be a super hero, or save the world. But showing a youthful romantic relationship? GASP? THATS FUCKING ILLEGAL! They must TIME SKIP 10 FUCKING YEARS OF CONTENT BECAUSE FUCK YOU

Going back to your comment even though I've done other comments, it's because then they have to shift to romance drama, which includes MUH MISUNDERSTANDINGS, love rivals, the fragility of emotions and relationships, maybe even someone getting injured, etc. Most romance stories have to go through arcs and have some drama to keep going for years/etc otherwise it's just lovey dovey people and it'll become sappy. This, this was a cute silly little story that did what it needed to do, said what needed to be said, and had slight aspects of what I brought up for drama. Rivals, misunderstandings, injury, etc. This was essentially a straight to the point light romance story, and it was perfectly fine. Now, imagine if you tried to spread all that for arcs that go on for months or even years. Some authors don't have that stamina to do that, or aren't skilled enough to string that along and make it interesting. Because if it isn't interesting, it'll get the axe and the story dies. This got its point across with the rather absurd romcom setting. I get the frustration, but how many long running series can go that long and A - remain translated, or B - be satisfying month after month? I mean look at Komi. Everyone hated the end. It had its own silly story to run with and it burned out by the time it finished. There are very few people who have the skill to do good romance, as you said. It's probably their own limit, so we're getting what they can show. Because if it wasn't good, it wouldn't be accepted into these manga stories and published in the first place.

We all like to think that they're simple, but it's still a business.
