Oh I see, that clears things up, still extremely convenient, but not as egregious as it looked at face value.
I guess this is the world Leonardo Di Caprio is going to get isekai’d to after he dies IRL, and then becomes a paramount religious or political leader of thanks to his actor charisma.

It's been a while since I read it, but from what I remember in the novel, their marriage was already falling apart. They where both basically looking for a reason to separate, and this ended up being it. Things end amicably if I'm remembering right.

There's different kinds of love though. After a certain point, they were just family and only stuck together because of their kid and to support eachother as friends. So, if a new romance is available, they don't have a reason not to just move on.

This whole rules thing is probably just an excuse to justify the cheating

Not a justification for cheating but a way of preventing assaults. It's entirely a matter of getting their consent. They're still agreeing to have sex with someone else it's just to make it clear that they actually wanted too.

To most westners here that are weirded out, Yobai is a thing that was more or less culturelly accepted in ancient Japan as weird as it sounds.
It was quite a weird accepted culture that resulted in many marriages and such.

This of course faded out but when I saw this in the Web Novel I was "wtf" than I started reading about this, If you ask me, totally explains that weirdest trend in anime that I never understood where it came from, that if a guy and a girl sleeps in the same room, SOMETHING SHOULD happen... pretty sure this kind ot culture was the origin.

Funny enough there was similar kind of culture in anxient Europe too..... mostly for dominated places towards the owner of the region but still XD.

Anyway it is just an interesting pieces of culture I never knew about Japan.... but yeah I wish it wasnt on the story, from here on gets a bit weird XD
