I don't know if it's an issue with the translation or the source material but that was some really disjointed dialogue there.

It's the translation. Some parts are completely mistranslated. Here's a quick retranslation of Page 8:

"...because I was ordered to."
"Id est, concord cannot be attained."
"Thus then, my parting offering, allow me to confer to you."
(It uses some archaic words and stuff, so I tried my best. Not very big on English literature.)
"Ugh...! Take my sword!"
"Kill him!"

As you can see, they couldn't get any of the demon lord's dialogue. Why? Likely because they use OCR, and in the case where it picks up gibberish, they just... go with it. For some reason. Some pages have acceptable translations, like page 28. But then, stuff like Page 6's first 2 bubbles are just... wrong:
"My shadows, by my order!"
"Take the demon lord's head!"

Admittedly, there IS a made-up phrase in Japanese that might have thrown the translator for a loop, 分身体 but it shouldn't have turned into... THAT.

I feel baffled at MC more than the hero though. How he can put up with that bastard is beyond me. He must be a masochist for sure

@mutsutakashi He seems the quiet type that wants to hold all the burdens of those he cares about. He cared about Jilyu at first, and wanted to hold onto the friendship he thought he had with him out of desperation, but at this point he's given up and stopped denying what his subconscious was telling him for years.

That “hero” is a whole motherfucker and a half
Well, that could make him a particularly good weapon when one beats a motherfucker with another motherfucker, as one often does.

So this chapter was clear as mud and difficult to follow, especially near the beginning, but I think this is one of those rare cases where it’s more the fault of the author than the translator. I get that nobody wants to spend more than a couple pages on the setup and introduction, but this feels like a particularly sloppy way to explain what’s happening in the story, with significant events being given 1 frame when it should be at least a page and obvious plot holes right off the bat. (How do the other party members not already know that Arga killed the demon king when they were standing right there? Beyond that, how could they possibly be unaware that Arga is stronger than the hero?) I’m still going to keep reading it, but expectations are not high after this low bar of a first chapter.
