You know, I'm glad there's an actual reason she chose to leave Cecilia behind rather than just "I'm a huge bih who loves the hero," like with many other stories like this. There's actual political reasons in addition to the love. It makes it a bit harder to say she was being completely horrible. Definitely a gray situation.

I had totally forgotten this retcon chapter. In the first chapter Mikana noticed the demon has fallen for Cecilia, so she had no trouble leaving her behind, knowing the demon wouldn't do anything to her. Yet here the author rewrote it anew to create this relationship drama for Mikana+Yuuga. Just look at her expression in the first chapter: she's blushing and smiling knowingly. Too bad for the author, Mikana's expression back then was drawn so well that it doesn't match at all the new narrative in this chapter.

It's based on a novel so it could just be the artist who did a wrong interpretation. So unless you've read the novel, conjectures based on manga alone is invalid.

I am planning to read the novel once I've caught up with this manga

What you say may very well be true, that it's a mistake by the mangaka adapting this (though even a mangaka is still an author), but I like to make it sound more dramatic by calling it retconning, not making a mistake and then desperately trying to fix it.

So what did Cecilia tell them when they returned to her after pawning the Demon Lord? We just moving past and ignoring the fact that he wiped the floor with them working together yet she alone somehow managed to utterly defeat him with no damage?
No questions asked?
