The bread was prebuttered, but there wasn't a basket of it, the waiter just hotpotatoed a couple buns to the table, mostly fresh from the oven.Wow, you got pasta? I just got the pre-dinner bread. No butter.
Credit to the scanlators, but I really wish we could go back to a time when manga chapters were put out as actual full chapters instead of these obligatory fragments we get every couple months or so just so people don't forget that the story exists. What is even the purpose of them doing this? All this does is frustrate the readers into not wanting to read anymore when there are countless other options that make for a far more satisfying reading experience.
And I feel like this is part of the reason there's so much AI slop coming out recently because a lot of these artists seem to be losing their drive, and as an artist myself, it really pains me to see what's happening.
How are the publishers are allowing a fucking 9 pages chapter? There literally was nothing to read. Most of the pages were just rehash of what was said in the last chapter.
We learnt nothing besides that a C rank is as powerful as a hero or something.
But in too many cases it isn't even faster uploads. It's the same slow uploads but less content. They can also encourage subscribers to check in more often for daily/weekly uploads of chapter parts whereas before it would have been longer intervals between full chapter releases.
I just see it as greed. A publisher sees a competitor doling out chapter parts out over the course of a few days and they have a "hold my beer moment" after seeing site engagement going up.But in too many cases it isn't even faster uploads. It's the same slow uploads but less content.
"Yeah, I have friends!"

We're evidently now in the era of multiple cliffhangers per chapter. Yeah, we (readers and translators) are being jerked around. This may be the first time I've seen a cliffhanger like this... (I know its a partial chapter, but still)
Wow, you got pasta? I just got the pre-dinner bread. No butter.
