I've seen similar. Some authors just don't know restraint. And then they try to write a story were tension in combat matter. Those power levels only work for comedy or non-combat focus.

Feels like it's easier to count on hand the stories that actually nail how support MCs are meant to be support or rarely fight. Like Live Dungeon did: he can decimate undeads with healing or cast powerful shield buffs on himself. But the former is only against things that take damage to healing and in the latter case all the barriers got broken and he explicitly couldn't do that in sequence knowing full well he'd be dead the next hit
