Translation and editing quality from this group are poor and their releases are chopped to shreds to increase the volume of their own ads relative to the actual story (if it wasn't they wouldn't insert miltiple ad pages between each shredded piece of a chapter - not to mention the fact that the post from this group in this very thread is another discord ad).

I don't get the impression groups last very long once they start doing things like this because it is always playing with fire in two ways: the more annoying the reading experience, the likelier it is thay'll get reported by an overreacting reader, and the likelier it is that the more reasonable readers will simply be driven away as the group spams their discord links into the void. Of course this isn't a guarantee of anything, but it's not something you see the longest lasting and largest scanlator groups uploading to MangaDex do for very good reason - especially if they're adopting a work whose previous scanlators translated more competently and released less annoyingly.

And no, those groups didn't grow this way either, because there's also the mundane reality that annoying people isn't effective at recruitment and never will be. The whole song and dance here is... self-defeating. I don't want to touch a discord run by people who thought this was a good idea with a ten foot pole.

hate to sound ungrateful about it, but man the translation on this manga has dropped a ton.
Critique is not a lack of gratefulness. I can still appreciate that someone gave me an apple even if I throw it away because it's gone too old and grainy, and I tell people as much. Don't let people use your gratitude as a shield from criticism. Do look gift horses in the mouth - don't be guilted into gratefulness exceeding the gift.

I think this work - by this group, at least - is an apple I'm throwing away. Or maybe I'll give it to the gift horse, it's soft enough for his old teeth.

Personally, I’m just surprised there’s this new generation of anime fans that have way higher expectations than I ever did.

I grew up in a time when anime was not mainstream— it was something you got bullied for if people knew you liked it. Growing up having the mindset of taking whatever I can get, and I still have that mindset.

When I was a kid, beggars couldn’t be choosers. You took whatever you could get, even if it was crappy. But in this new generation, people are super choosy and extremely particular about their manga.

For me, even if a group or translator spams their Discord everywhere and the translations are MTL, I’ll still be grateful for it. Because I grew up in a time where almost nobody TL’d— even as a hobby.

I also very much treat reading manga as entertainment, which doesn’t seem to be the case for some. It’s less fun for me to overanalyze everything about a manga and critique every little thing.

Manga also isn’t a big deal to me. I have far more pressing problems than the quality of the manga I’m reading. Even if I don’t get to read it for awhile it’s not a big deal.

I see much of the mentality that I outgrew in many people.

If I have to go to a website to see it, and there’s ads, so be it. God forbid people want to be compensated for their work. People act like adblock doesn’t exist, and people in general on this site start to resemble the population of Twitter users even more. Which is why I tend to avoid these forums, and even spoke against its return— over a year before it actually did.

Some people have way too much time on their hands. Many of which who need to grow up.

Back in my day, hieroglyphs where the only thing I could read! Your expectations are too high if it's in the English language!!! Beggars can’t be choosers, am I right or am I right? People have waaay too much time on their hands (as I typed my 2,300 message)!! Thieves need to be compensated for their work ;((
