It raises SO many questions. Knowing right away isn't really an issue. I'd be more scared if they didn't know that was a rule, start panicking that something's not right. I would guess a miscarriage or abortion results in a reversion to the previous state.

But adding your two questions together makes for some interesting further questions. Pregnancy isn't instantaneous, so does the sperm remain inside them during the time or is it expelled? If they had unprotected sex with one of them as a girl and the other as a boy, switched, and did it again, could they both get pregnant simultaneously?

The fact they can even get pregnant at all has fascinating ramifications that result in nothing but further questions. That means they must have periods. Are their periods on a continuous cycle or do they go into timeout when they're male? Can you skip a period by being male the whole time?

I feel like the answer is probably, "It's not that deep. Stop thinking about it." But the answers beget more questions.
