Well, the author had a character concept that admitted that Kokoro was always intended to be crazy. Just that her breakdown would be gradual. "Selfishly admire another woman, selfishly create her own mental image of that woman, selfishly feel betrayed by that woman (broken up with in this case), and then spirals out of control".

I got the impression that Akane favors Kokoro over Kurumi and assumed it was Kurumi's fault. Maybe she thought that Kokoro approaching Kurumi one final time and getting rejected would finally get it through Kokoro's head to move on.

to be fair to her, she only got kokoro's side of things which were her disjointedly going, "oh, ah, i asked her out and she said yes but she doesn't like me and now i feel bad and it was all my fault and she didn't do anything wrong and i love her so much" which wasn't really an accounting of what happened that helps you get a particularly accurate view of what happened.

My best guess is that the reason the Kudou plot seems to be progressing so rapidly, is to set her up as an antagonist for later volumes. They still have the Isanuma plot to get back to as well. This volume seems to be about concluding Kokoro's arc, resolving the misunderstanding between Kurumi and Naoi, and end the volume with Kudou being rejected and wanting to get back at both of them.

to be fair to akane, it's not like she has a full enough picture of what's going on to understand what she suggested kokoro should do.

To be fair, this is almost certainly not what she meant by "Give it your best shot." The explicit rejection (which Kokoro hadn't received yet and which some people need to move on) would have been a good time for Kokoro to leave to go cry at Akane.

Too bad Kokoro is bonkers. Or good for us, since we get to read the drama. However no character except maybe Naoi realized this about Kokoro until now.

Y'all got a lot more faith in Akane than I do. The way she swooped in to rekindle her friendship with Kokoro after Kurumi's outburst, started to say something that sounded like she was about to blame Kurumi for Akane and Kokoro's friendship deteriorating, suddenly taking a part-time job at Kokoro's family's restaurant while conveniently forgetting to mention it, and then giving Kokoro advice that sets her right back on a path to torpedo her relationship with Kurumi even harder right as Kokoro started having misgivings about her behavior makes me think that she's on course to yandere the yandere. I would be entirely unsurprised if Akane was planting cameras in Kokoro's bedroom while this big confrontation is going down at Kurumi's place.

But the single biggest piece of evidence that Akane's not right in the head is even simpler: she's a character in this manga.
