I predict Mine seemingly being the one who did it is going to send Isanuma spiraling. Isanuma wants to believe in her only remaining friend, who I'm guessing is in love with her but sees Isanuma having an affair with the teacher and is set on slowly burning everything down out of jealous rage, to hell with collateral. The mystery is clearing up somewhat, but there's still some uncertain details. Did Mine lie and say she saw Naoi do it, or did the teacher make that up on the spot to shut Isanuma up because the other teachers were watching?
The paint on Mine's shoes most likely means she did it, because it's splattered. But then that raises the question of what Kudou knows. Kudou might just be messing with Kurumi and lying to get her to give up on Naoi. She might plan to show Kurumi her text to Naoi to make it seem like they did it to prank her. Though Kudou definitely isn't trustworthy, and that text could be interpreted alot of ways. So, Kudou might also tell Kurumi they were at a hotel together the previous night, whether or not they actually were.
Naoi was already starting to lose hope at the start of the volume, but I think getting accused of ruining the arch destroyed whatever hope she may have had left. She's trying to push Kurumi away again. And admitting to it even though she didn't do it could've been coerced out of her by the teacher. She's had similar things happen to her in the past due to Kudou. Getting blamed for what more favored students did. Though I see a bit of irony in that now their classmates seem to be paying attention to Naoi, even thinking she's likely innocent.
As for Kurumi, after talking to Naoi, she's basically certain she didn't do it. However, her confidence might get shaken by Kudou. But Kurumi knows Kudou isn't really trustworthy, so she might still be determined to help Naoi even if she thinks she was seeing Kudou. And I doubt Kurumi will take kindly to Kudou's suggestion that she goes back to being "a good, obedient girl". Though Kurumi should be careful, since she once again ignored Naoi's warning of not getting into other peoples messes, since it can turn out badly. Kurumi's so worried, in part, because she thinks this could end up ruining their plan to move in together eventually. The end of chapter 20 made it clear that Kurumi considers graduating from high school as the goal that must be reached before it can happen and now Naoi's ability to do so might be jeopardized.
I have to wonder what Isanuma will do after seeing the paint on Mine's shoes. She might go into denial about it. But there's also the fact that if Mine did it, that it was Mine that ruined her reputation at school this time. Plus, knowing Mine did it and Naoi being in a ton of trouble for it might guilt her enough into telling the teacher about it. But the teacher isn't going to want to look bad for essentially framing another student, so odds are he'll tell Isanuma to keep quiet about it if she tells him. I think it's only a matter of time until Isanuma's deal with the teacher comes to light. And I think it's likely the truth will come out before Naoi receives her punishment. I wonder about the floor cleaner the class mentioned when they were trying to fix the arch. Since Mine got it on her shoes, then she might have used it herself to hide her footprints. Meaning if they go to get it, the class might find traces that Mine did it.
Only one chapter left this volume, so next chapter is likely going to have some major things happen. Looking forward to next month's issue.
Naoi being out of school doesn't seem to fit with the author bringing Kudou into the school. It's clear the classmates are being expanded for future story arcs, meaning Naoi will have to stick around in the same class to be part of those. This feels like it's shaping up to be Naoi finally interacting with the others.I do think the affair with the teacher will come out eventually, though I don't think it'll happen before Naoi gets punished.
Mostly because the impact would be greater if she is expelled or something, and then maybe Mine tries to finally get Isanuma away from the teacher and with her, Isanuma rejects her, and in a fit of anger "lets slip" the relationship to some other students and starts the rumor mill that winds up with exposing them both in front of the whole school.
Finding out about that, and then it turning out the teacher (likely, it seems) personally framed Naoi just for the sake of convenience to himself, and the amount of backlash would be fitting for the gravitas this title has in general.
I'll be perfectly honest, I've kinda blocked Kudou from my brain because her character is that disagreeable to meNaoi being out of school doesn't seem to fit with the author bringing Kudou into the school. Yeah, same here. I feel like it's stalling it more than necessary.as fun as the drama in the recent chapters has been, i really hope they dont spend the rest of the volume focusing on it + this side couple. Naoi and Kurumi's dynamic is so much fun esp w koudo right there but Naoi's just being avoidant which means that every interaction the two have had for the past few chapters has basically boiled down to her telling Kurumi to fuck off
...直井!Page 11 last panel: I think that's Naoi asking Kurumi (not Kurumi asking Naoi), "Are you mad because I destroyed what you made with everyone?"
This is my big issue with the current arc, unless there's some payoff it just really isn't very interesting to have the relationship between the two characters we have been following from the start and has been built up over 20 chapters be this strained. Like it's not that the story is bad per se, but it's certainly less interesting when the dynamic that sold the manga initially just straight up may as well not exist right now.as fun as the drama in the recent chapters has been, i really hope they dont spend the rest of the volume focusing on it + this side couple. I kinda wonder if the ongoing drama with Mine & Isanuma & Sensei is being tied together with Naoi & Kurumi with this accusation / threatening of punishment, to round out the arc and push the Mains back together again. This is my big issue with the current arc, unless there's some payoff it just really isn't very interesting to have the relationship between the two characters we have been following from the start and has been built up over 20 chapters be this strained. I think the reveal will probably happen next chapter, but the fallout will be in volume 6. Isanuma's been backed into a corner. She could very well go to the teacher next chapter for help, but gets hit with the reality that he doesn't care about her despite everything. All Kurumi or anyone else would need to do would be to record it on their phone and publically release it. This is where Naoi's warning comes into play. By crushing Isanuma, the teacher, and Mine, Kurumi's just made more enemies and given Kudou more pawns. Though in the short-term, Naoi would be back in class with Kurumi, which would be seen as a win.Again, a lot to make happen in a single chapter, but I'm guessing that's the aim, assuming the author doesn't just let the main pair continue to drift like this which, agreed, feels like a bad idea.
halfway through reading your comment I was thinking "that sounds like something Mine would do tbh" but, no, you're right - that would fulfill all the dropped flags of this chapter and the arc up to this point while being something that can happen in ~30 pages.I think the reveal will probably happen next chapter, but the fallout will be in volume 6. Don't know why it won't let me post the image but 違うでしょ is in a separate and less calm (lol) bubble. The Korean TL also treats みんなと作ったもの汚して怒った? as Naoi's line.Wouldn't the last line imply the second line is also Kurumi? Both seem to be phrased as questions.
The second line can be read both ways, due to Japanese text allowing for the omittance of key words. While the third line is vague enough to fit to both interpretations. Though the shaky bubble does push it more to the second line being Naoi's now that I took a closer look at it.Don't know why it won't let me post the image but 違うでしょ is in a separate and less calm (lol) bubble. It's like:
"Are you angry because I ruined what you guys created together?"
"It wasn't you, was it?"
