It was pretty easy to “be with the one you love” back in those days, so long as you don’t mind adultery (and nobody did) so I’d take that as evidence that they didn’t reach positions of authority or live long enough to reign - otherwise they’d have fucked the brains outta their respective love interests easily and often. They’re just servants after all.
