I get you, but in a world where such powers aren't too uncommon surely higher ups have countermeasures in place. So if someone really wanted to there'd likely be a way to restrain him and make it impossible to use his powers. And then they can do whatever they want to him.- . - ;
I really should be used to this by now, but I will never understand when immensely overpowered characters automatically assume they somehow wouldn't be able to prevent themselves from becoming experimental subjects or hunted criminals. I mean sure he can't really judge his strength against what is normal for a guardian, but dud just torched a dragon with barely any effort.
Have more confidence in yourself, do your due diligence. If you didn't already know what Guardians looked like in the field, do some research in video archives or streaming sites. Then once you're a little more informed, report to the same governmental building that the 15 yo kids who awakened [IDEA]s get their assessment, and move on from there. Why fight an upstream battle when you can just let the system you're already trying to join do the hard part for you.
ba-baik bang LianWith that kind of power, he could even turn the world upside down. So why would he assume they’d use him as an experimental subject?

It mainly depends on how well the author's imagination is and ours(meta)O . o;
How so?
From his new memories he was a mage without peer in his previous life. One who could solo armies and hoards of magical beasts with relitive ease. Sure I could see his current world having countermeasures for [IDEA] based combatants that have gone rogue, but a fully fledged archmage with multiple powerful attack vectors and a solid defense? Nah m8, all I see is an author who is fumbling thrue their character design and world building.
Who says he has to go guns out into the DMV to get his driver's license?It mainly depends on how well the author's imagination is and ours(meta)
But he's still technically an ordinary guy. The more he would stick out, the lower underhanded tactics would go.
He cares for his sister and forcing her to live off grid is an issue in itself.
Does he really want to lay waste to sectors of the world and practically become a tyrant because he doesn't get what he wants when he wants it, just like the big companies looking to exploit his powers? (His character doesn't seem ok with that thought)
And there's ALWAYS a bigger fish. We only know of the monsters. Stories like these always have a poor misrepresentation of God or a god or evil deity and etc...
The rule of thumb to follow for a good power fantasy is that the mc in question isn't the first to exist, hence, who's to say someone like Pickles from baki isn't frozen somewhere or there's not some primordial being watching everything from it's cosmic window?
You're right that the author is fumbling. Their first mistake was emulating a generic story with flashy moments. But give 'em some grace on the character design (if you meant the artstyle) only so many ways you can draw until someone screams plagiarism or something.
CoughBucceesCough
Exactly! There're things about him and the story as a whole that just don't properly add up like: being 18 with no experience and not 15 (still with no experience) and somehow he now can't land a job or even a placement test at ALL those companies? How illogical. Just because someone has the ability to, doesn't mean that at 15 they're totally fine with putting their lives on the line for money😅. There's numerous real situations and reasons someone wouldn't show up until theyre 18: having other dreams and trying for them first; your parents work could have ya'll constantly moving; at 15, MOST parents (if they're good ones) aren't gonna be okay with you jumping in dungeons; at 15, REAL gov'ts aren't okay with it either; many jobs (entertainment ones, for example) come with contracts; etc X 100. Showing up at 18 without experience should be the norm, not the abnorm. If it's not the norm in this fake world, it's simply because the author didn't think things through PROPERLY before writing shit down. If a place is looking for talent, they're absolutely gonna test him, BARE minimum. Then, there's the things he worries about, like being experimented on because he knows a technique rather than some miraculous talent that just showed up at 15. His is technique, so it can be learned and it can be TAUGHT. That's not something that gets you sliced and diced, there'd lit be no point. HOWEVER, exactly on a 15th bday, miraculously gaining skills, skills that not everyone gets, THAT will ABSOLUTELY get you experimented on😂! If his world were IRL, there'd be ppl RIGHT NOW laid up on cold metal slabs with their brains being opened! The MC apparently knows 1000s of spells and he's also strong enough to (if he wanted) destroy a magic world. Magic makes the impossible possible. A magic world comes with numerous spells and just as many techniques (Ex. mana manipulation - that can amplify and direct mana), magic tools, magic metals, magic beasts, etc. In his world, ppl have one set skill and none of that other crazy magic stuff. Which world is more powerful/terrifying is supeobv, so what is he even worried about? Protecting himself from the dangers of his world aka his old world on [easy mode], should be child's play compared to what he's already fought and lived through. As I see it, this writer isn't the least bit a logical thinker, so a lot of obvious realities are being completely overlooked. If that happens in a story, the story won't make logical sense and the subplots will be filled to the brim with internal logic errors, continuity errors, and contrivance. Whelp, as you can see - IT VERY MUCH IS😅!Who says he has to go guns out into the DMV to get his driver's license?
Dud should have just reported to whatever bureaucracy that handles admissions as if he just got his [IDEA] and apply for training and licensing. If they start grilling him about the strangeness of his age, he could just mention he got caught up in a dungeon break and his [Idea] manifested in response. Sure there are still risks in this, but it offers him the best chance to use his abilities openly within the existing system. If things falls apart there after, he should have a lifetimes worth of experience to fall back upon.
One does not become acknowledged as the top archmage of an entire world by being weak or failing to learn some form of dealing with governments and other individuals with personal power. Doesn't matter the tropes and clichés made popular in fiction. That just doesn't happen.
Artstyle and base story are completely separate issues. There are thousands of incestuous fantasy fictions being written as we converse. My issue isn't the artstyle or even the basic premise of the story, it's the hamfisted way the author is floundering thrue setting up his OC's new job and living situation.
Ok, thanks for the context clarification. I based it on what was discussed between you and the other guy, but I still think that it all depends on the imagination.Who says he has to go guns out into the DMV to get his driver's license?

Been reading and watching Japanese media and literature for the better part of 40 years. So while I know my understanding of Japanese culture is limited in many ways, I've got a fair bit of cultural knowledge to draw from.Ok, thanks for the context clarification. I based it on what was discussed between you and the other guy, but I still think that it all depends on the imagination.
Hopefully I word it right, but i was kind of leading up to what could potentially happen if the influential people started pressing him because of his potential based on what's shown so far. A sort of mapping. And I agree the whole "if you're a bit older, it's unreasonable for you to be valuable" is kind of dated if not dumb. But it's also from a mindset of a Japanese person. The customs are different so there's that in consideration on how they manipulate reality to attract certain audiences. Stupid, but that whole "leftover people" comes to mind. Maybe this will be a factor in the story. Younger people are more impressionable, manageable, etc..
I find issue with this for multiple reasons. First the MC is already putting himself out there in a noticeable fashion. Japan is big on bureaucracies and licensing for dangerous industries and weapons. So any profession that involves one or both would come with mandatory training, registration, and licensing. That's why I keep saying he should have found a newbie center to apply for certification and training.○And the second point is that being a top archmage doesn't mean he's above everything. Like I mentioned, there are other, better and worse, stories that show power scaling. As a reader, we expect the MC to no diff everything and that includes intellectual debates and conspiracies. At this point, that's a bit boring. Cool and satisfying at times, but no one is omniscient (unless the author says so). It's a new world for him to exercise his archaic abilities and not to mention how people think have changed. I think this is where we may clash in opinions most, but just because someone with immeasurable power and intelligence exists, doesn't exclude someone capable of usurping their position existing. Jealousy has always been the root of all if not most conflicts in life, fiction or not. How the characters deal with it is what sets the story apart, no? Hence why many people call certain MC's beta cucks or chads or what not. If anything, I forget the name and im afraid if I switch tabs ill lose all the progress in this message, but that one manga about an archmage level guy you're describing who was betrayed by his subordinates, but reincarnated and sought revenge comes to mind also. The only source name that comes to mind because it's been used so frequently is one of the traitors named Amon. People bide their time and wait for opportunities to strike, if they're competent. And im afraid ill lose my point if I haven't already if I continue on this one, but yeah, being the best in the room doesn't make you impervious most of the time, it just means more effort is needed to topple you and now we wait for what direction the author chooses. Hopefully it's good enough, 'cause I need a new time waster that's not too dark and can scratch that itch 😅.
Wrote some above, but it also felt that he was only applying for jobs he obviously had no training for. So the whole sequence of interviews just fell flat. I mean sure desperate people do stupid things all the time. But if you are truely desperate, would you keep trying to lie your way into a corporate office, or start applying to restaurants, grocery stores, and construction companies. Then there is the farce of him trying to skip straight past certification, and applies for guardian work.○And again thanks for the clarification, I wasn't sure which type of "design" you meant. Yeah, I think we can agree on this part in the future at least. I haven't reached that point of understanding you're speaking of, but I did chuckle at how his senior reacted to having a junior. As a writer myself, aside from what you mentioned earlier, what about his living condition and work part did you dislike? Or was it just the unrealistic setting set for him to gain a licensing?
