I'm glad Stark was able to redeem himself after getting taken down embarrassingly easy in the previous chapter. This time, I think he was the main contributor to their victory.

Kinda feel bad for the old assassin, as much as he’s a killer, he was assigned and stayed loyal to a mission whose meaning he doesn’t even know. To some extent he and his comrades are also victims.

Pondering and dreading the meaninglessness of the actions from most of his life is probably a well deserved punishment for all his actions, especially when/if the regret finally hits. Plus he doesn’t have anyone left he can confide to so there’s also a solitude factor in it.

It's the classic cycle of abuse. Hurt people hurt people.

Frieren was likely the last living person on the watchlist who'd ever pass by the area and by the time they come here again he'd likely have died of old age or be too old to do anything even if he changed his mind.

Why did this feel like a Frieren-style-paced story? Marriage + children in just a few flashback panels
If even Frieren's heard of them, that's proof they are antiquated.

Imma go on a limb and assume that at the ends of all their lives, they all understood that they cared more about their family than the mission. Ofc, they still completed their mission, but, that near death experience for the old man made him realize exactly what he cared for most.
Only took 40+ years for him. And since the rest probably didn't get a near death experience, they only realized on their deathbed.

I like how Frieren's suffering has changed from the depths of depression and existential crises into "ew it's mucky".

That's just life, isn't it? We find small things to take our minds off the big things, until we can't. This journey will have its own ending too.

If Grausam is still alive, which seems the popular theory, this is probably some "small risk, high reward" play by him. IF Frieren's death is what he's after.

It feels like we are getting closer to the end of the Journey, but i guess we still have to see some moments like the south hero plan and the north company (the one that wanted Stark to help them in the war), also the demon that was hidding from everybody, hopefully we get to see the "talk to the dead" Magic at the end so every new generation Frieren goes and talk with their past companions...

Reminder that the first time they took this journey took ten years. We don't know where they are in reference to the rest of the world, so we have no idea how long the manga will continue to run. That being said, this feels like nowhere near the end. There is a massive amount of unresolved narrative left, and plenty of room for more to be added.

You'd think the oldest man (father) could have travelled to their headquarters after a decade to check if the mission is still valid. And again after another decade. It's not like such an aging man missing would have lowered their combat potential that much. Some sleeper following orders that might not even serve any purpose could do more harm than good. That is, unless they were orders given by demons and the demons are still controlling the country.

Can't abandon the post without orders, even to confirm if said orders are still in affect. What would happen if a bunch of people on the list randomly showed up at the same time and they were short the man-power to take them all out at the same time? They would have failed their mission as the remaining targets would have escaped.

The strongest character in the story as far as we know is the hero of the south. So yeah human warriors can get insanely busted. We don't really often see them because it's a story focused on mages.
But Himmel while being unable to use his senses managed to fight off two extremely strong demons, ones Frieren couldn't defeat on her own.
Hope when we get to Rivale we will see Stark pop off as hard.

Himmel was not a warrior

He was a hero, from the hero class. Eisen was the warrior of the group (and Stark is going to fight Rivale, the demon warrior, just like Eisen)

The hero of the south was a hero too, just like Himmel. They were both referred as 勇者-Yuusha, the hero class in Dragon Quest

Not 100% sure, but I think they're about to enter the "Unified Empire" Assassin-Priest belonged to, which is directly next to the Demon's terrority. The Demon King's castle is just before their final goal of the afterlife land, and the castle is on the far side of the territory as well.

Even if it was for a moment, he was a man who subdued Stark. The warrior who even Eisen feared. He evaded the mana detection of Fern, who could sense the flaws in the Grand Mage Serie's mana flow. With nothing but speed, he made the plans of Frieren, a mage who's lived 1000 years and has experienced night uncountable battles, completely useless.
That he didn't take her head the moment he had her pinned meant that he had no intention to kill in the first place, and his fleeting life was already nearing it's conclusion. He was a kind, somewhat disillusioned warrior. And she is the mage that is growing to learn more about humans.

Fern being able to see the instability in Serie's mana right in front of her and her being able to detect someone's mana completely concealed are two different things

I don't even think she has better mana detection than Frieren, which is what your post suggests. Remember back in Revolte arc Frieren had to point out where the demon who was concealing his mana was about to attack for Fern.

I love how this series keeps illustrating how the march of time affects motives and drives. Yeah, you can keep focused on a single thing your entire life, but after 60 years, that's just one thing in a lifetime of experiences.

It’s quite the contrast to Denken, who procrastinated for a long time to do something about his hometown and finally visit his wife’s grave, despite how monumental these things were in his life.

The old assassin here, despite acting like his mission had the most meaning in his life, wanted nothing more than to put it out of his mind and even hoped that Frieren would never show up at his assigned spot.
