even when I shove the exact term into google translate it says 'book of magic' (magic tome) which would fit far better in context (a mage trying to get magic tome to learn magic...and not from necromancy scroll)

If the price is accurate, then when you have nothing and it takes you 2-3 months to get even that, it is a lot of money.

Also page 9 bottom panel, it repeats the line, "And managed to save up 20 gold coins."

For anyone interested in the rest of the story, I was reading it on Syosetu before the manga had any translated chapters.

Spoiler: Helpful tip for Google Translate

Google Translate doesn't always give consistent results for proper nouns (names of people, places, or things).

Get a browser extension to replace words (I use "Word Replacer Max") and whenever you see google giving different name results, put that name into the replacer so it's translated before google gets there.
