I don't think they've internally monologued at all in previous chapters, so it feels very wish-fulfillment-y that we so suddenly and bluntly see them thinking to themselves, "otaku-kun is cool". It's as if they exist only for him; if it's established that the third person narrator has access to their thoughts, how come we didn't see any of them before?

tho tbh aren't most of these slice of life wish fulfilment anyways :v the theme also goes well with a Japanese saying "a flower in each hand"

Whether or not there will be any romance (and statistically speaking there probably will be), the three of them just have such good chemistry, like they're actual good friends. It's pretty enjoyable to read, and if there is romance this is great buildup.

That's true, but this'll make it harder down the line. Because chances are, one of them have to be the losing heroine 😥

I think Amane is the clear choice. They have very similar vibes and share interests. Ijichi is wonderful, of course (my personal pick is I was in this situation) and would be quite happy in a relationship, too, of course. I don't see the poly angle super viable, unless it was an open polycule or it was Amane having a bf and a gf, rather than Otaku having two girlfriends.

Also, our boy is getting this close because he's primarily thinking of them as potential friends. Even if they remain just friends this will help him in the future to be comfortable around girls. We need to celebrate boys being like this.
