Literally nothing we've just seen makes what she did the least bit better, the opposite actually, considering now we know she treated lloyd like garbage despite him essentially making her a noble, just because he didn't also develop some weird superiority complex she went nuts 😐

She abused Lloyd because he was just happy no matter what while she was miserable her entire life and thought he understood her but he didn't. I honestly don't think we are meant to feel bad for her - or if we are, it isn't working... This just showed she has been mistreating Lloyd from about the start! He was recognized, put effort forward, and was gonna head towards a goal - so she planted herself into a role of authority over him. Not you'll be my partner, you'll be my assistant...

As others have already said, I understand her better - but her lashing out and being shitty at anything she dislikes from the get go shows that she's been a nasty brat for way longer than we thought.

lol what does the author want me to emphatize with? she was a sorry resentful bitch from the start, hating the nobles that came to aid them for preconceived reasons, dismissing lloyd's efforts and then once he was powerful enough, trying to use him for her own benefit, plus the whole reason why she's mean to him is purely because he cooked a meal she hated, talk about petty, she never cared about him, she just wanted to leave that place, be rich and famous and needed power, which he had, she was always a toxic person and now a traitor of humanity, hope she gets what she deserves

This. Every step of the way Ruby is shown to be both more savvy and proud, and no opportunities were lost to reinforce that her personality and inferiority complex have always been a problem. I think it's really skillfully done, with just how many factors are at play in balancing her status as someone who's likable as a character for being shitty, in a way that's understandable but not easily forgiven, while still making me want to see her get hers. Like, even her Final Form that's equal parts hideous and goofy.

It's also a rare choice in this type of story to clearly show that Lloyd would have still been every bit as successful, if not more so, without Ruby. And that it was his initial success through effort that kicked off her journey.

Ruby just needs to die off somewhere. What purpose was that backstory supposed to serve? Am I supposed to feel sorry for her? Both her and Lloyd grew up in the same situation, however, she seemed to always have been a little bitch whereas Lloyd seem to always have been happy go lucky. Ruby, as per the flashback, has always been selfish and has only ever given a fuck about herself. She was never genuinely friends with Lloyd and from the jump it looks like she was always using him. Fuck that bitch.

Y'all always think back stories are made to make you feel sorry for someone, sometimes they're done to give insight into how a character thinks and why they do the things they do. The backstory was not meant to make you feel sorry for her, it was to show you why she is the way she is.
