They can detect it, or rather, they evolved to detect it. The ones that can't detect it die.how true is it birds and insects would avoid produce with pesticides? i imagine theyd eat anything regardless..
Anyway, it is interesting to read this as an agricultural entomologist b/c Kariya isn’t 100% wrong but he’s so dogmatic and doesn’t seem to know or even be interested in the realities of farming.
This guy keeps harping about fully natural farming with only organic compost and no pesticides makes the vegetable and fruits a gazillion times tastier and I wish I can find such a thing so I can see for myself if he's just talking nonsense or if he's got a point even if it may be exaggerated.
He has been literally incorrect in numerous things, but taste is rather subjective.
I mean, if the argument is to say that "this method of farming is impossible", that's a separate conversation. What I want to find out is whether it's really true that completely chemical free fruits and vegetable (meaning even the fertiliser has to be organic as well) taste better.Well, just to put forward the opposite view, if you’re a fan of animated shows, there’s an episode of King of the Hill where Peggy, who is a substitute teacher, is put in charge of the student’s organic garden… So no pesticides… Guess what happens.
it is quite simple to compare actually. My grandma had a small patch of land where she grew some vegetables completely organic. Ten times harder and a fraction better, if not worse most of the time due to pesky bugs. Many of the herbicides are downright toxic but most of the time, properly regulated ones are quite safe and make farming so much easier. I come from a third-world country so everything grown in my country was organic around 10 years ago. Does not make much a difference other than the fact it makes work harderI mean, if the argument is to say that "this method of farming is impossible", that's a separate conversation. Dude, what do you mean it's easy? Like, not everyone has easy access to homegrown stuff like that. Taste is also kinda subjective, as I mentioned. Even if you think both taste the same, I might not have the same opinion. That's why I wanted to have a try for myself.it is quite simple to compare actually.
