Nobody is mentioning this but the design of that "thing" is pretty creepy.

She is an adventurer. They climb the tallest mountains, travel to inhospitable lands, research in most difficult conditions... they do pretty much anything a cautious person would absolutely never dare doing, cause all that is on their minds are conquest, revelation, and the fame that goes with it. And yet without adventurers our world would be much smaller and far more mysterious today.
That is a terrible comparison. Adventurers at least know what they are getting into and are prepared for it.

Not really, you can't prepare for everything. That's how a lot of them got killed over course of history, and are still dying in storms, avalanches, and accidents of various causes. One also can't predict what exactly they will find in unknown lands.
Reporter girl knows the supernatural is dangerous, but to her it's just like daring the deep ocean or the space.

Adventurers still prepare. She does not. Adventurers have their own equipment and gear. She is running around with a pen and book. She did not even pack alcohol on the off chance something like the bug swarm deity come around.
I know this mindset. She thinks that she will never get caught up by the supernatural because she is a bystander. In all her adventures so far, she has never been a victim of the supernatural, primarily because there is already a victim and because Asama is there to draw attention of the supernatural.
I also see this mindset in a lot of reporters that just nonchalantly walk into dangerous situation thinking their press badge will stop anything from hurting them, only to be extremely surprised when they got attacked or taken hostage. But at least those reporters prepare with safety gear and instructions on what to do when danger happens.

ok so I feel like an idiot saying this earlier bc whenever I tried wearing them they always slipped towards the centre or got asymmetrical and wonky but i looked it up and theres a really simple way of avoiding it (crossing them over at your back) that I wasn't doing bcs i was just copying it from ig. but my comment still stadns
i thought that with such curve it would slide to the side regardless (like FFVII Tifa)

felt like it's unfair to put him on edge like that, i'm sure reasons like not letting your friend putting herself in danger is a good reason, although the guilt making him worried for her make sense but certainly not as far as thinking of her as replacement

Whenever I see people mad at fictional characters for arguing or disobeying Obviously Dangerous rules I wonder just how many of these totally sensible, non risk taking, clearly communicating humans are out there.... or if they only exist in our heads as 'what we'd totally do in the horror movie'.

Anyhow, what I love, truly, is: She really has no reason to understand how dangerous this situation is compared to the others she's been in. She doesn't have the education, the spirit sense, the information. She's walking into a burned building after a fire to look for Clues because she doesn't have a fireman or an architects training to know just how dangerous it is.

But our fellah here does, and now we have a good grasp of why he pulled away from it all. His sister seems to be calling for him still, huh....

"Curiosity killed the cat"
It doesn't help that the reporter girl has cat-like face either.

Also yeah I know the missing quotes is "but satisfaction brought it back" as in you get rewarded with answers for your questions, but in reality most things are disappointing and unsatisfying when answered.
So most people only feel the first part.

it's a terrible curse of the genre. right next to 'well if I was a romantic protagonist I would just conduct all conversations with reasonable, even, direct communication no matter what circumstances'.

but to me, in horror, its so much more interesting to see why someone WOULD keep going back into danger. And it's the same reason we read.

To see. To see a little more, to understand a little more.

On a re-read, something I really enjoy is how much our fella's approach to investigating is different, because of what he knows from his family background/ knowledge of this areas phenomenon/creature. The moons presence isn't brushed off, he notes the fallen trees, and checks under layers of signage for the older variants.
