The main driving factor is dumb-dumb dick thinking. Him boning Yami wasn't his idea, that was all her being angry at the world and especially her sleazebag stepdad, and then finding someone she felt something for.

But in Yuu's mind he was incredibly depressed. He never going to catch up to Hikair, never going to be good enough for her, and the best thing he could do is move on. The author made a good juxtaposition with Yuu and Yami who are both engaging in self-destructive behavior because of lack of self worth and desire to eliminate what self pride they had.
Yami wanted to "ruin herself" so completely that she wouldn't object to her step-father molesting her and disrupt her mother's marriage.
Yuu wanted to fall so completely he could clearly never be good enough for Hikari and he would be forced to move on.

And he's a pathetic piece of shit because of that. Dude never genuinely TRIED. He just went "oh, I couldn't go to the same university as her so might as well fuck sb else while I preach to that random person how much I love my childhood friend!!"

Like, be fucking for real. It's not about him losing his virginity of whatever, who the fuck would genuinely care about that. It's the fact that he's a pathetic dude who never tried to face things head on and decided to FUCK sb else to force himself to forget a girl he never really TRIED to go out with.

Yuu/yami didnt stay together for 30 mins tho but its hikari seeing the kiss/slap 30 mins ago.
And judging by the last 2 chapter, you could assume that yuu looking for hikari, apologizing to her then hikari inviting him to the gym and the dance itself realistically takes almost 15-20 mins so its almost a certainty that yuu didnt stay long after that kiss/slap.

I've been extremely critical of this series and how bad I personally think it has been written and released.

I found this chapter to actually be one of the more well written ones of the series. Could it go in a direction that is stupid? For sure, but I'm not going to bash every chapter just to bash it.

This is one of the few times I've actually looked forward to the next chapter because I'm interested in where it going instead of looking for the next train wreck.

We don't know the context behind what happened leading up to the kiss. We know that he did yell her name tho. Also why does everyone blame him for having an ex? Hikari didn't even know she had feelings for him until the start of the manga. How is it his fault for getting with someone else earlier on? Everyone is jumping to wild conclusions without all of the context. Let the author cook Jesus christ. A bunch of fucking children in these comments.

You are the one here making a scene schizoposting and doing things haphazardly, I don't know why it's my fault xD. And again, go back and read the manga again: he failed the exam, he felt depressed and not being good enough for Hikari and things happened with Yami, is a quite human thing.

This is probably the best take about the Yuu and Yami situation:

You know, while thinking about this chapter I thought back to something my mom told me when I went through my first major breakup in my life in high school it was something along the lines of

"Sometimes you meet the right person at the right time for the right reason and just because it ended doesn't mean it meant nothing"

Sometimes relationships aren't meant to last but that doesn't mean they were pointless or a waste of time I really think Yuu's relationship with Yami is an example I this going through it was something he needed

I mean clearly it changed him since it wasn't until after it that Hikari fell in love with and I don't think that timing was coincidental I think it matured him and helped him get over his inferiority complex somewhat and even if he's always had feelings for Hikari that doesn't mean he didn't feel anything for Yami or saw it as "just sex" I'm very confident it was something real to him and it did break his heart when she ghosted him

But he learned from it and matured did it make him perfect? Holy hell no, he's still a fuckin teenager who has ALOT to learn and honestly, people are never truly done learning in life but it's ultimately a good thing that happened to him even if that relationship ended it really did mean something he didn't use Yami or anything like that

But again, if you are a kid who hasn't experience and only talk in absolutes about a thing you only know because entertainment about it and really don't want to step down from the very high horse you are on, I don't know what to tell you. It's a useless conversation.

I don't think that's the reason he left. i think dudes phone is legit out of juice, got separated came back to Hikari's classroom to find her or get someone to contact her for him, and got into it with Yami (who was the one doing all the kissing). He just didn't mention Yami going all lickety-style on him because he wants to confess to her and that probably isn't the right time to tell her "Oh btw we used to bang".
