I think in the other series the girl is not readable most of the time , her motives or emotions are rather confusing . In this one , from the beginning we see her actually care about him , although she is brutal in her remarks they're completely fair critism most of the time , we can say for sure that she wants him to be extremely dependant on her for reasons , so her motives are deductable. Which is confirmed here that she had a post relationship ,where the other person left her , so abandonment issues , Just as many predicted before

My prediction is that the ex-girlfriend is the one who destroyed his self-estime and sees him like a pet she keeps on a leash.
The new girlfriend probably has a trauma over a boyfriend who toyed whith her and wants MC to stay useless so that he will never have a leverage over her.
Crack theory, the new girlfriend will see the same pattern of her former BF in the behaviour of the Ex, she will try to interfeer but the Ex will call out her BS because she treats MC just as bad as she does. (Copium) MC grows up and protects his new GF.
