I‘m rereading and it only just occurred to me. When her father was trying to clean up the blood off the floor there were several small trash bags, and it clicked for me that was how he was trying to dispose of the bodies. She had to watch him cut up the bodies like pieces of meat with kitchen utensils. That’s why meat now makes her nauseous.
