GENDERSWAP CHAPTER GENDERSWAP CHAPTER GENDERSWAP CHAPTER
Don’t you think Gon should’ve been the one to beat up the ant king, Meruem?
Now this I find offense to, Mirai. Hunter x Hunter, while a great shonen series in itself, also is excellent because Togashi-sensei realizes the tropes inherent to the genre and flips them on its head.
The Chimera Ant arc wasn’t like your average Sword Art Online arc, where the main character and only the main character is the only one who matters - Gon is just one small part of a massive plot. The whole plot to assassinate the ant king would be completely worthless if the Hunter Chairman saw a 10-year-old boy whose mentor died and is undergoing a ton of stress and went “hey, let’s make this kid take point”. Sure, there’s definitely a chance that Gon could’ve killed Meruem if he realized Kite would never be saved, but Netero didn’t want to risk their strongest men on a chance. The easiest strategy to depose of a king is to separate his strongest retainers from him and then drop the strongest nuke they had on him, and it worked - they even got two Royal Guards killed alongside him by luck alone. Meanwhile, Gon kills one Royal Guard and he ends up losing an arm, his nen, and pretty much his entire well-being as a result - it was only due to Alluka Ex Machina that Gon was able to get rescued from his HUUUUUUUUUUUGE fuckup.
Anyway, that is my mini-essay about how HxH had to happen the way it happened. You can tell I used to be a high school boy.
Edit: now that I’m rereading the chapter, the gender-swapping rain only affects their bodies (the umbrella panel shows boy Hikaru still wearing a girl’s uniform). Does this mean that every student has extra clothing for the opposite gender in case they get a Rainma 1/2?
