Yep, they ask the ban for principle, because they think that no one should read them, lol. After 30 years i'm into anime and manga and read every kind of genre i never read once that someone from fiction emulate it into reality.

This reminds me how once in a while a small vtueber shoots themselves in the foot by saying all anime fans are pedo lol

Or how once a adult webcam woman whined about anime fans being pedo while cosplaying as a underage character lol

It's honestly baffling how some western people throw a fit over certain things that are basically common and completely ignored in Japan, loli and shota are perfect example, there's a big market there and nobody loses their minds over it lol

Emulation is the most used excuse the detractors use for banning content they do not like, but they never provide evicence and data of these claims, simply because such data is not existent since is a trivial thing, a non issue, a personal grudge against art and nothing else.

The DMCA was never about 18+ stuff, moreover this stuff is hidden by default unless you make an account and enable it on purpose. You have to force it otherwise you do not need an account at all to read regular manga.
They target MD for regular and popular titles, these publishers aren't very smart because they pratically target a website that give them popularity outside Japan thank to the scanlator works.

But whatever, is their completely loss, change nothing to me and even if they shut down MD i read whatever i want elsewhere. People who read translations will never buy anyway the original, make no sense to buy something you can't understand, even if the scans are not available.

Hard to say, I could see mods taking a few days to take down everything, it is a lot of stuff after all, the mods might not even say anything too, after all what they can even say? So I won't be surprised if they continue quiet for a while.

All we can do is wait as we watch mangadex bleed to death

DMCA process:
1. Copyright holder sends DMCA takedown request.
2. MD complies, and notifies the groups that uploaded the offending material.
3. If the groups believe the takedown was in error, they have a counter-claim process they can go through that alerts both MD and the copyright holder of this.

Let's face it - there is zero chance that groups are going to try and counter-claim on these notices (making a false counter-claim lands your ass in very hot water), so once MD takes the material down and notifies the group, the process is effectively over. MD will probably mark the affected titles as not being eligible for upload due to the DMCA, and may release a list at some point, but practically the process is pretty quick.

Probably never. It's the new normal. The service provided by these third-party copyright/brand protection companies are really attractive in this economy.

Torrent what you can now. There are enough manga/anime/tv shows/movies/video games/books/novels/etc. to last several lifetimes.

I guarantee the end goal is for them to scan everyone's computer for any copyright infringement. Hopefully I will be dead by then.

Even entirely legitimate counterclaims can land you in expensive legal hells. Going to court is very expensive if you don't already have your own legal department. Proving you're innocent when a mass accusation of everything in sight was all it took for everything in sight to be found guilty, is no easy feat.

Correction: They think no one should read them but themselves. A double-standard is invariably at the core of such beliefs.
Banning something for everyone else is the only way to transform the guilt or embarrassment one feels for doing a thing, into a feeling of privilege - and the more cruel the punishment the more superior being above it all will feel.

Formulating the evil business plan.

1. License works that have been scanlated.
2. Issue DMCAs to have those scanlations removed.
3. Prepare 'official releases' by re-typesetting the translations from the scanlations.
4. Release.
5. Profit.

Groups can't really complain about this, since their distribution of the scanlations is a violation of copyright, hence attempting to challenge the use of their translations is an admission of that violation and would open them up to civil action.

Like I’ve written earlier, it’s probably to prepare for mass official releases by AI/MTL assisted companies like Orange and Emaqi. They did the exact same thing when shueisha released manga plus, they went in hard against batoto right before manga plus was released. History doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes.

Oh… no… all those completed, axed, abandoned, been on hiatus for years and shit so generic I don’t even know why I was following it series got dmca’d. If anything this was a blessing that helped prune bloat from mangadex and my disgustingly sad list of hot garbage that was in serious need of gutting.

My suspiscion is that a lot of the unlicensed ones have been licensed by emaqi and will have official releases soon. Cheap licenses with AI/MTL assisted releases most likely.
Also remember that a lot of manga are also licensed in France and other countries than in English, and most Frenchs can read English.
