Oh, ok, I thought you meant something else, nevermind my previous post then lol

Although I agree they're possibly being deceptive in part due to the clear radio silence, I don't think they always planned this move, losing all series is just not good no matter how you paint it, so maybe they're just trying to salvage things and go full legit since they might feel they have no other choice.

It won't really help of course, who didn't use NamiComi before won't start now, but I guess that's how desperation goes.
If you have seen the front page for quite some time now it has been full of NamiComi self-published slop, they were always using mangadex to promote it, it was just going further to actually merge the two. Undoubtedly they didn't plan to do it in this manner and have everything fall on in their faces though.

I never look at the front page cause then I'll want to add half or more to my subscriptions of whatever series I see there lol

I'm not against the supposed merger, but removing all pirated series will definitely kill it no matter what, so really, would have been better if they had kept things separate on NamiComi site or whatever in this situation.

By doing this it feels like it's in bad faith, even with radio silence it would be better to just say the doors are closing and that's it, cause saying in the faq they'll focus on "content creators" is basically a "tell me you're gonna remove everything without telling me you're gonna remove everything".

If they just admited Mangadex is doomed then that's it, that's just how it goes sometimes, but the faq makes it feel they're basically saying "but hey we'll focus on content creators, so Mangadex is totally not dying ok?".

Makes it feel like they're not just downplaying the situation, but also purposely kicking us while we're down and rubbing salt in the wound.

I don't know, maaaaaybe Mangadex will survive crippled and still host what it can, but that faq sure as hell sounds like corpo language to say "yeah this is over but we won't really say it openly and will paint the situationin a positive light".

Most likely it’s going to fail and it’ll be mangahelpers 2.0. People are here for manga, not OC. This place will likely die completely like mangahelpers when they eventually remove all manga.

I'll be honest, since supposedly according to some Mangadex isn't really changing hands cause they own NamiComi too, if that's true I do wonder if it really has to go the same path as Mangahelpers.

It's pretty clear they'll probably remove all chapters uploaded and just merge with NamiComi to put their original content here.

Fine, fuck it, maybe they don't have any choice on that, I don't fucking know.

But even then a part of me still hope that removing chapters aside everything stays the same, the site could still be a scanlation and community hub + a better place to keep track of translated series, Mangadex didn't grew just because it had so much content, but also because of how good it was as a community and as a catalogue of translated series and when new chapters are out.

I'm probably just drowning myself on copium and hoping for the best really, since it's pretty unlikely they'll do that :meguuusad:

I don’t usually post anything in forum and I’d like to post this question as a separate post with poll but I have no idea how to do that and i don’t know which sub forum I should use for this kind of question, any help appreciated!

I know everyone is frustrated (me included), but I think what we can do is move forward. That being said, the latest official faq statement implies mangadex is over for us, at least that’s how I interpret it.

This bring me to a question: what is the future of scanlation groups now? Particularly for those who’s uploading their works primarily in MD or their chapters wiped out or feel their work is in danger of felt affected.

As a reader, there are other sites or aggregators to read manga, albeit it is likely worse than MD. But these sites, especially aggregators, are very likely not translating manga themselves. More over, among 7k titles, I’m pretty sure many of them are being translated by a single group where they only share their work within MD and nowhere else. This maybe obvious, but im this case, you will ended up in a situation where you may able to read old chapters in other sites, but if these groups decided to stop translating, many titles are at risk being abandoned and won’t be receiving any updates.

So it doesn’t matter where I read: if no one supplying the chapters, that would be pointless. So I wondering whether these groups do the following:

1. Continue their work
1.1 Upload them to other sites/aggregators
1.2 Upload them in private channels (e.g discord, make their own website)
1.3 Upload them to some other uncommon channels

Or

2. Stop translating altogether

I realize that I am late to this incident and trying to read 41 pages is wow, a lot of reading. I like MandaDex because not only can you read the manga but it has links to be able to buy the hard copy or digital copies just to support the author/artist. Another thing too is, if it wasn't for MangaDex, nearly 90% of the Manga I been reading, I would never have heard of them. The local bookstore has a nice selection, but it caters to the more popular manga/anime (Nurota, One Piece, Bleach). They do get others but a lot of times, they get snatched up quickly.
Perhaps MangaDex can go the Crunchy Roll, HIDive site, a pay per monthly subscription. I don't mind doing that.

They added a content policy a couple of days ago that made a lot of scanlators quit this place, including me.

some will continue uploading here, but in time many will simply leave, hell, many already are leaving

you know what they say about rats and sinking ships

I imagine most will simply put their stuff somewhere else

This is what I was mentioning in my post, I would have never found a lot of the manga I am reading here if it wasn't for MangaDex. If I like the manga, I go and buy the chapters (I prefer hardcopy but will get the digital if I can't get hardcopy) to support the author/artist). Am not rich though so I have to limit myself 10 books a month. That's will be a loss to the author/artist because I would never heard of them.
Ah, well, back to the bookstore.

Yep, I’m aware and that’s why I didn’t list “Keep uploading in Mangadex” at the end of my comment.

I just wanted to know if groups like you will still continue doing and sharing your works in other places, and if so, where/which channels do you people share you works?

Several group leaders have already gotten upload permissions on the next most likely scanlation hub.

I’m currently just using reddit and cubari, but I’ll probably join the other place when you can get upload permission without asking on the discord.
Weeb Central?
Not allowed to tell or I’ll get banned.
Weeb central won’t allow user uploads though, already confirmed.

Well some piracy sites certainly handle it by being smart enough to host in places that can ignore DMCA.

Nah, real issue isn't that, but the fact that Mangadex wasn't doing something wrong right, in this case host stolen content.

Having a site like this in a place where you have no choice but to obey DMCA is like selling stolen merchandise in front of the store from where you stole, it was never going to end well, we simply got lucky it lasted this long.
Apparently they had CDNs in places that could ignore DMCAs though, but they used the opportunity to go legit with NamiComi who just so happens to have a co owner that is also a mangadex dev, what a fortunate coincidence...
