That's fair. Thanks for the chapter. I read 160 elsewhere and it's basically a long very gory monologue about how cannibalism is bad. Still, I prefer the quality you put out.I’ve decided to skip Chapter 160, as it has already been publicly released by Utoon. Since the chapter is readily available and there’s nothing significant that needs improvement, redoing it would be redundant.
Well, thank you for your praise. If time permits in the future, I may consider redoing Chapter 160. For now, it would be an inefficient use of time, as I have other priorities to attend to, and that chapter is full of yapping, which makes the translation and typesetting process significantly more time-consuming.That's fair. Thanks for the chapter. I read 160 elsewhere and it's basically a long very gory monologue about how cannibalism is bad. Still, I prefer the quality you put out.
Tbh chapter 160 is a real snoozefest, I literally fell asleep while reading that. That's fair. Thanks for the chapter. I read 160 elsewhere and it's basically a long very gory monologue about how cannibalism is bad. Still, I prefer the quality you put out.
Thanks for picking this up! Utoon/riohan is literally putting this behind paywall if not for you, I hope you will keep translating this in the future.I’ve decided to skip Chapter 160, as it has already been publicly released by Utoon. I definitely will, as long as someone is willing to pay for raws in my stead😉Tbh chapter 160 is a real snoozefest, I literally fell asleep while reading that.

I think he uh...well I think he ate himself till he ceased existing.Just curious about his demise, did he get eaten from inside the dream and just pop out of existance?

The Author of the book is Lu Xun, an influential 20th Century Chinese author and was referenced in previous chapters I think. A lot of his work revolves around pointing out/critiquing the discrepancies between old traditions in China and the modern Western ideas. The particular book shown is called 呐喊 (Scream), I've personally not read it but the wiki article has an excerpt:We see that Barker pulls out a book with a title that has “Old Ones” in it. I don’t know what IRL book that refers to, but the mysterious man talked about how only children who had not tasted the flesh of other humans could hope to put an end to the cycle. It’s possible that the IRL book is about something related to stopping cycles of abuse from being passed through the generations.
His other work Diary of a Madman seems more apt in this scene, especially with the themes of cannibalismIn his preface to Nahan, the first collection of his short stories, Lu explained how viewing this scene influenced him to quit studying Western medicine, and to become a literary physician to what he perceived to be China's spiritual problems instead:
At the time, I hadn't seen any of my fellow Chinese in a long time, but one day some of them showed up in a slide. One, with his hands tied behind him, was in the middle of the picture; the others were gathered around him. Physically, they were as strong and healthy as anyone could ask, but their expressions revealed all too clearly that spiritually they were calloused and numb. According to the caption, the Chinese whose hands were bound had been spying on the Japanese military for the Russians. He was about to be decapitated as a 'public example.' The other Chinese gathered around him had come to enjoy the spectacle

Ahhh, okay. After re-reading Chapter 161 again I realized that they showed the title of “Scream” pretty clearly. The Author of the book is Lu Xun, an influential 20th Century Chinese author and was referenced in previous chapters I think. I've read the 160th chapter and then checked a bit on Lu Xun "The Scream".For anyone curious about what happened in Chapter 160:
After entering the home, Barker (the Country of Death guy) comes across a jail door with a mysterious man inside.
The mysterious man is talking about how dangerous it is to go outside right then as he knows that the rooster and dog are planning on killing him and then eating him.
He also keeps talking about how dangerous things are because there are even the kinds of humans out there who will eat each other.
The man then talks about the fish that he has been preparing to eat, and says that maybe it isn’t even a fish but is instead human flesh made to look like a fish because whoever prepared the fish doesn’t see there being a difference between fish and humans.
Barker gets weirded out by it all and demands that the illusion is lifted, and says that even if the door to the room is locked he will still get inside to kill the mysterious man.
The mysterious man turns around and says that it’s interesting that Barker mentioned that the door was locked, because that door doesn’t exist unless you are some kind of “man-eating devil”. It’s at that point that the man points out (and Barker realizes) that Barker is actually trapped in a small metal cell.
The man says that the cell was made to imprison those who eat their own kind as some kind of act of karma, and that Barker will not be able to leave until the souls of all of those he has eaten are able to restore themselves (which in this case means they will devour his soul until they regain what he took).
Given the details that we’ve seen in previous chapters, I think what happened is that Barker inadvertently entered the dreamscape of the bookstore owner and unwittingly read one of the dream books.
We’ve seen before that whenever the bookstore owner pulls out a book to give to someone, that book comes from Earth. And while the books seem to be automatically translated through magic, they aren’t exactly normal to anyone (besides the MC) who tries to read them.
I like to think that’s due to the fact that those books are quite literally Lovecraftian/Cosmic Horror because they contain information that comes from outside of their universe, but it’s possible that Inky is also enchanting the texts. For example, we saw that someone else was a book about astronomy earlier that ended up giving the reader knowledge about eldritch monstrosities that existed in outer space.
We see that Barker pulls out a book with a title that has “Old Ones” in it. I don’t know what IRL book that refers to, but the mysterious man talked about how only children who had not tasted the flesh of other humans could hope to put an end to the cycle. It’s possible that the IRL book is about something related to stopping cycles of abuse from being passed through the generations.
