It's not like the OP MC would have needed a boost to his own combat ability by having a good support character. His support character merely needs to be OP herself to stay alive.

I wonder if Mist's job skill really even is "heretic". Maybe it's something else and the temple staff merely are schooled to call it heretic the moment they see it, as a religious and national policy. Because it's too overpowered. If the MC wasn't destined to become a hero and change the country, possibly his job skill, which is a rare and basically only judged based on its name, would be turned into "heretic" if the MC rebelled against the system, causing a lot of destruction, but was ultimately defeated by those in power. That is, to make sure no other clock-user would get so powerful and repeat the rebellion.

busted support type skill set
That's one path.

But,as in real life(no matter how many try to say that atheists are the cause),it's more likely the chruch does not want to have their position undermined by those they have less influence with, possibly to one day have their own revolution to very much secure the nation under their thumb.

Definitely corruption afoot.

The actual reason is a lot more petty 🤣

So she has spells with buffs the MC presumably won't actually need, the barrier and heal seem useful though, also the restoration power if the come across a monster with a DOT skill

Let me guess, her actual job is saintess and the church is assmad that there's two of them.
Doubt it, skills seem to be pretty specific to jobs so it'd be weird if she had more than the other saintess. If I had to guess, I'd say it's something like "angel" or even "goddess" and they decide that's sacrilege because no human can be on par with divinity.

"Far more saintly than a saint" sounds like a good foundation to declare something heretical.

yeah that's what I thought, because this skill can manifest on some random citizen, not someone in power, so they label it heretic to root out the problem comes from authority undermining

That tracks. Organized religion such as these are such a plague on society. They should be dismantled.

So... who is messing up?

Is it the gods?, as in a new god is taking the place of the old one by changing the mindset of the people

Is it the power hungry church or government?, like not allowing the "problematic" to have OP jobs and naming them as heretic since they don´t even teach them how to use the skills, "oh, this orphan is a sword master?, nope, heretic... is this son of a dissenting noble going to be a sage?, sorry, heretic"

...or is just stupidity, as in "this job sounds lame/dangerous, so it must be lame/dangerous"
