As for Bokuyaba, I think that this mentality is not romanticized, because the characters in this manga expressed dissatisfaction that others were too busy to pay attention to them and there were quite negative consequences because the main characters were afraid to disturb each other because they would be in the way. The balance between work and relationships is one of the conflicts in Bokuyaba (especially for Yamada), and Yamada's agency is somewhat antagonistic with their ability to put restrictions on her personal life so as not to cause problems for them (given that they can forbid her to have relationships). I think Norio-sensei will be able to give them a satisfactory outcome. Let's not forget that the main characters are just kids trying and learning to be adults. Yamada already has a job, unlike the peers, and Kyotaro is in “examination hell” trying to get into a prestigious private high school.

As for the whole thing, it depends. But, knowing the work ethic in Japan, I think some people can project this mentality into manga (and manga is not known for its work-life balance). And the fact that this is the root of many established tropes and ways to stretch the plot, so it can really be annoying.
