with him being a lich and not having a physical body there it does basically prove at least he didn't sexually assault Drakko

Sigh... just how much more plot armor can Julius have?
Now he's unkillable because he never had a body in the first place... this feels like a last minute addition to justify him not dying, there was ZERO foreshadowing for this "reveal."
Welp... I don't even surprised if later story he revealed him self as demon lord or God :lul:...

Oh, so THAT is why he suddenly turned Julius into a Lich, he's trying to cover his ass with all the criticism he received of the mind control and heavily implied sex slavery!

Hang in there Gashadokai.. remember to let go if it gets too burdensome. Kappabeast released great translations on many interesting manga over its time in the scene and i'm sure like me, many people appreciate that.

Sad to see 4 pages of comments on the manga but none of them seem to acknowledge your situation. Guess the scanlation scene nowadays is less of a community but more like a taken for granted public service abused for free.

Kinda like hopping the subway gates but instead of few bad apples, everybody and their mother is doing it.

Whenever I read the comments in the mangadex forum, it's no wonder such negative remarks can force an author to take another direction and he himself seeks revenge by sabotaging his work since their creativity has been trampled.

You'll say it's just mangadex and we have no influence... but I can already imagine the comments must be more or less the same with the japanese readers.

Remember Prison School has a terrible ending because of the fans.

Thank for the translation.

I don’t yet have access to Japanese audience comments on the chapter, but I do have spoilers for Chapter 41, some sales data, and an interview with the author published on July 8, 2025—one day before the release of volume 2.

First, spoilers for Chapter 41. You guys can find Chapter 40 on the translation team’s website.

Lesson 41 - Once again, it's me. Drako from back then.

The chapter picks up right where the last one left off, with Washio hugging Drako in midair.

Washio: "Telepathy."

Washio uses a spell to enter Drako's mind. Inside, we see a young Washio and a young Drako, back when she was still just a monster. Drako is surrounded by shadowy figures holding hands in a circle. Drako swings her tail, trying to fend off the shadowy figures.

Drako: "Stop!!! Don't come any closer!! Why are you bullying me!!!!"

Washio raises his hand and dispels the shadowy figures.

Drako: "...Eh? ...Ah!"

Washio takes Drako into his arms.

Drako: "It’s sensei!"
Washio: "Long time no see, Drako. Sorry to have kept you waiting."
Drako: "No, it’s okay."

Back in reality, Drako opens her eyes—they’re back to their usual color.

Drako, crying, says to Washio, "Sen...sei... So... so... sorry... I'm sorry."

Washio: "It's okay. Having adolescent students means dealing with things like this."

Drako brushes Washio’s hair away from his forehead, revealing a bleeding cut.

Drako: "Did you remember me...?"
Washio: "Of course I remember. You’ve grown up."
Drako: "I’m so happy... You know, Sensei... "

Drako hugs Washio tightly.

Drako: "My name is Ragon. I'm the monster girl you saved back then."

("TL Note": Drako’s name, "ラーゴーン", is pronounced Rāgōn in Japanese. It could be transliterated as Lagon or Largon to reflect the extended “aa” sound, but based on the pronunciation—according to Google—it sounds closer to Ragon, so that’s what I’ll be using. Also, Drako/Ragon just dropped the title.)

The scene shifts to the battle against Julius. They keep attacking, but it’s no use.

Aria: "Ugh, come on! You’re just far too invincible, aren’t you!?!?!"
Alice: "If things keep going like this, we’ll gradually be overwhelmed."
Claudia: "Isn’t there some kind of weakness?!"
Rimnoa: "Of course there is."
Rimnoa: "The Elder Lich hasn’t completely become astral. That soul exists somehow near the astral body and receives a supply of magical power from there."
Rimnoa: "Often, they wear accessories or similar items, which act as vessels for the soul, however..."
Rimnoa: "There hasn’t been any response from my magic detection for a while now."
Rimnoa: "Somewhere... It might be hidden in a place not too far from here, but..."
Rimnoa: "We don’t have time to search right now."
Rimnoa: "Everyone, do you have any idea where it might be?!?!"
Aria: "Do you have any idea…"
Julius: "Holding a strategy meeting right in front of the enemy? You must be feeling pretty confident."

Julius launches an attack on Claudia. Rimnoa shields her with his body and is injured. Blood spurts from the wound.

Rimnoa falls to the ground, injured by a puncture wound.

Claudia: "Rimnoa-sensei!?"
Rimnoa: "This level of threat... is nothing to worry about. More importantly, we need to find out the whereabouts of Julius-sensei and the soul’s vessel..."
Rimnoa: "...For example... a place like a hidden room."
Claudia: "A hidden room? Something like that..."

Claudia remembered when they broke into Julius’s private lab and, using her tentacles, discovered a space beneath the floor. At the time, she thought, “There’s a hidden space under the floor…!”

Claudia: "...Could it be..."
Rimnoa: "If... you have any idea... then head there immediately... I’m counting on you... Claudia... …san..."

Rimnoa loses consciousness.

Claudia: "Rimnoa-sensei…!"

Claudia starts running to Julius's private lab. Julius "teleports" to her side.

Julius: "Now, where do you think you're going?"

Aria says, "Your opponents are us," as she attacks Julius.

Claudia: "Thank you, both of you."
Alice: "Please proceed without worrying about us, Lady Claudia."

Claudia keeps running while Aria and Alice distract Julius. She thinks, "When I snuck into Professor Julius’s room, I felt a space beneath the floor. I'm sure it's there..."

Claudia arrives at Julius’s private lab. She uses one of her tentacles to break through the floor.

Claudia: " Take this!!!"

Claudia finds a hidden staircase. She thinks, "A hidden staircase...!!!! Just as I thought...!"

The chapter ends with Claudia starting to go down the stairs.

Insight:

The beginning of the chapter was kinda cute, but then it shifts to Julius and a whole lot of yapping from Rimnoa... Welp, at least Julius is not really invencible.

Second, physical copy sales data. According to the Shoseki Ranking, Volume 1—released on 2025/01/22—sold around 8,523 copies in its first month. I remember the author mentioning a reprint on X, so it did pretty well. Volume 2 was just released on 2025/07/09 and sold about 8,050 copies in its first week alone, which is pretty solid. That means Volume 2’s first-week sales nearly matched what Volume 1 achieved over an entire month. So yeah, sales are looking great.

And finally, the article with the author’s interview. I’ll just share the Q&A section, not the full article.

――Where did the original idea for this work come from?

My editor suggested, "Let's draw a romantic comedy about a monster high school girl!" There were many twists and turns before arriving at that point, but since it's a long story, I'll skip the details. We struggled to finalize the heroine’s design—there were elves, spider girls, and so on—until I drew a rough sketch of a high school girl with octopus legs, and she looked cute, so I went with that. That's how the current monster girl was born.

――In this work, the expression of Washio when he dreams about past events is very striking. Are there any particular points you paid special attention to or want readers to focus on?

I put a lot of care into the cute expressions and gestures of the monster girls, as well as the size and movement of their chests. Also, Washio, who is often thrown around by these girls, is sometimes cute too, so I want readers to pay attention to that.

――Do you have any favorite scenes or lines? If so, please tell us along with the reasons.

It’s Alice’s line in episode 18: "I am an automaton. I am non-living... but I do possess reproductive functions." It’s a very edgy line that can be taken as a gag or seriously—it’s a delicate, perfect line in that sense.

――What do you keep in mind or focus on when developing the story?

In the romantic comedy parts, I keep in mind "I want a beautiful girl to do this to me!" In the serious story parts, I focus on "The monster abilities of the monster girls. Washio is incredibly strong!"

――Okinosuke’s works quickly draw readers into the world so much that they finish a chapter in no time. Is there anything particular you pay attention to or are conscious of during the art process?

I pay special attention to the cuteness of the monster girls and their chests. If I let my guard down, they subtly stop looking cute, so my editor regularly "hits me" saying, "That’s not cute!" The same goes for the monster girls’ chests—especially Claudia’s big breasts... I’m careful about the wrinkles on her shirt over those huge breasts.

――Please tell us about your future plans or goals.

My goal is an anime adaptation! …I want to boldly say that, but my main goal above all else is to pour all my effort into entertaining the readers with each chapter. Improving my work efficiency is also a goal. And becoming healthier is another goal!

――Please give a message to the readers who are looking forward to your work!

Thank you very much for always reading "I’m the Monster Girl You Saved Back Then." I will continue to strive to make this work even more interesting, so please continue supporting the adventures of the monster girls and Washio!

P.S. Everything here was translated with MTL, so please keep that in mind.

I am gonna call it now that Julius will be revealed to actually be the supposed ghost girl from Washio's past and she is using a fake male illusion puppet as a disguise.

Why?

Cause then the author will be able to keep their cringe OC in the story by force.

"In the romantic comedy parts, I keep in mind "I want a beautiful girl to do this to me!" In the serious story parts, I focus on "The monster abilities of the monster girls. Washio is incredibly strong!""
So
the author wants to be in a state of adoration where he doesn't reciprocate feelings and just keeps all the girls in suspence? This humility of Washio seems more like "emotional cowardice", he keeps a sort of ambiguity so that no girl will give up on him, it seems a sort of safety net for the protagonist and the audience, they don't have to choose, committ they got a buffet of girls from which they can enjoy a superficial relationship but that still gives them more attention than they receive in real life.

Makes me wonder if his self-deprecation is not a way to manipulate the girls, consciously or not.

My goal is an anime adaptation! …I want to boldly say that, but my main goal above all else is to pour all my effort into entertaining the readers with each chapter. Improving my work efficiency is also a goal. And becoming healthier is another goal!
Yeah, I don't think this is getting an anime adaptation, not when half of the runtime is stuff the readers have been complaining about not wanting to see (the whole Julius arc) and the author doubling down on it with every passing chapter!

Thank You.

And what should people do? Praise it?

It feels like mangaka wants to do Blue Archive, but doesn't understand how to not make Sensei too goddamn useless, or make a Black Suit that's too direct.

Thanks for the spoiler. Guess I was half-right all along... :nyoron:

I am gonna call it now that Julius will be revealed to actually be the supposed ghost girl from Washio's past and she is using a fake male illusion puppet as a disguise.

Why?

Cause then the author will be able to keep their cringe OC in the story by force.
..........
I think I'm gonna develop end-stage Cirrhosis if this becomes true :aquadrink:
