The pace in the early chapters is wacky, and I'm not sure if it's due to the translation or what, but the dialogue was hard to follow. So, yeah, he was being a hikikomori seems to come out of nowhere, although I know he was always socially awkward.

The sisters and mother have commented on it multiple times. I can understand forgetting some stuff but idk how you would forget that , it's part of the reason the sister seems to check on him so much. Its also explained in the literal first chapter pretty clearly , so yeah idk how you didn't know

That's one terrible mother. Everything we have seen about Minori's work suggests that she doesn't like it and only does it because of her mother.

The way the mother talks to her in this chapter seems to reinforce that. "You'll lose everything...", "don't you treasure the people...", those words are manipulative as hell. She's even implying that the event in her other school was her fault.

The rival finally appears? Maybe I'm forgetting the start but I didn't remember that he was a shut-in prior to this story. He really doesn't show it with how willing he is to take the initiative socially, even if it often is for the sake of his crush. I am a bit sad the online friend didn't just turn out to be a handsome dude. Or maybe like a handsome girl, like a prince character? That would have been a way funnier twist in my opinion.
