This was a really good compare/contrast chapter!
Some key similarities I saw between the MCs:
1. Both are highly sensitive individuals with strong empathic abilities
2. Both are prone to romanticism and flights of fancy, shown by their openess to kink and shared interest in fiction.
3. Both feel the standards they are expected to live up to are unfair but also hate not being able to do so.
4. Both are immature and prone to deception. Gomi had a sexual obsession with a children's media character and struggles to have age-appropriate interactions, resorting to violating Yumezora's privacy, which is a serious crime.
Yumezora both consumes primarily shojo stories and dresses in Jirai-kei on her off time, a style that emphasizes youthfulness and is associated with people that are emotionally underdeveloped. She has shown emotional and sexual manipulation and has blackmailed Gomi and is cheating on her husband.
Key differences:
1. Gomi is actually kind of an optimist. He can't stand idelized shonen but enjoys seinen manga (crucially, it's meant for ADULTS) that depict relatable, flawed protags that are eventually able to grow and have a realistically happy outcome. He believes in happy endings, and potentially romantc relationships in a grounded way.
2. Yumezora is more cynical. only states she consumes shojo manga (meant for CHILDREN) but also hates it. She explicitly states happy endings are not real, and doesn't believe in any alternative to the idealized romanticism of children's media.
She seems to think all she can do is revel in being desired by a man, but struggles to find self-worth any other way.
