Fun isn't it?

Stick or check up occasionally and you will accidentally read most of Lord of the Rings.
and the rest of the books too.

But whatever you do, don't watch the Amazon shit.

Also might end up being spoiled about Legacy of Kain :wooow:

Bueno esta es mi opinión de Sauron en aquella mierda de serie de TV de Amazon.

Sauron se supone que sea una metafora para Satanas!
Se supone que de miedo en como astuto y manipulador que es!
No es un cabron papichulo de telenovelas para mojarle la paja a las mujeres bellacas viendo la serie carajo!
Bueno, no precisamente Satanás pero por supuesto lo que hizo (y sigue haciendo) Amazon es un desastre en sí mismo.

(wo)Man-ko
(I don't think we've been introduced properly ever)

This was me handing an olive branch, do you want to continue?
This fan film is better than the Amazon fan series, so I guess there's that. Alright, for the International Section, how fan are you of these two memorable videos? For some reason the first one requires to log in.

The question is, why reading a post-French author with little originality when you can have the Kalevala, The Eddas, Beowulf and even more medieval works plus all the Greek mythology?

Because I have read Kalevala, Greek mythology, Beowulf and other sagas
You are jealous and call him "post-french", when your language lacks a Tolkien.

I used "post-French" precisely because you just referred to English as French, the follow-up joke. For fantasy I prefer Lord Byron because I have no issues with the British, but to answer your question... isn't it better if we don't have a Tolkien?

"Language of France" in 2225 is Finnish btw.
No one actually talks that much or at all.

Cat, tell me without saying it out loud, that you have never read a single work by Tolkien or Tolkien Jr.

I have both LOTR and The Hobbit at home, why do you ask? Should I like everything I read or think higher of it?

So why are you here being antagonistic towards the thread goal of just sharing the love of Tolkien?

"I just spoke X language" yeah i am fault of that myself by now.

Love of Tolkien is also Love of English!

we are ment to speak English if we are ment to talk about Tolkien

A TOLKIEN THREAD???
HOLY FUCKING SHIT NOW I CAN JOIN THE PRETENTIOUS NERDS CLUB(the caveat is that there's always someone who will know more than the other since most normies haven't even touched the legendarium though the amazon tv show is theoretically bringing things in)

erm akshually the legendarium says in the second age that he was physically attractive (though tumblr is why a ton of fanart depicts him with red hair in the second age as Mairon(which is probably a name you only know from TolkienGateway or something since it comes from some random ass HoME issue or something))

Mairon is his original name before he fell into Morgoth's service. First mentioned in Unfinished Tales, I recall, but best told in Valaquenta part of Silmarillion.

weird cause i didnt see it in my copy of silm or ut
You are right, it's not in them. Hmm, well nowadays you can access all the info on internets, so it doesn't really matter.
Nonetheless, he kept using his real name and not the epithets given to him by his enemies. Even LotR mentions, how Sauron himself doesn't allow his servants to call him that, when the fellowship investigate the new-breed of orc bearing the rune S on their helmets.
Well, that is Aragorn talking and not the author, since later on we get Mouth of Sauron, referring to his master as "Sauron the Great", but then again he might've done that for ease of communication, he was an emissary after all.

If you are thinking of the fair form in the Second Age, it's "Annatar" you are thinking of. As for the red haired depiction of Sauron, I think the most famous one is "And Finrod fell before the throne" piece of art, depicting Sauron as a handsome elf with long red hair.
But damn is tumblr art cancerous... you get near-yaoi stuff between the characters... I suppose we know where the writers of the Amazon show got their inspiration from. :wooow:

Sauron, like any of the valar or maiar could choose to embody themselves however they wished. They usually chose forms that reflected their domain and nature, but any of them could choose to appear as a horrible being, if the situation demanded it, though only the servants of evil would end up doing this and eventually they would be locked into these horrible forms, as their nature had become so corrupt that they couldn't transform into anything beautiful.

Sauron was exceptional amongst the servants of the enemy in that he could for very long still choose to embody into a fair form, despite having most definitely become as corrupt as Melkor himself. He would use this to his great benefit in the Second Age until the ability was stripped from him, when Iluvatar destroyed Numenor and Sauron's physical form along with it.
Afterwards Sauron could only embody himself in dread and horrible forms, forever locked as the Dark Lord he had become. Additionally, he had become quite tied to his physical form. After losing the ring, he evidently could not regrow his missing finger, as Gollum told Frodo that the enemy had only four fingers in his other hand. Similarly how Morgoth became permanently scarred and maimed from his duel with Fingolfin and the subsequent rescue of his body by Thorondor the eagle.
Though, maybe after regaining the ring, Sauron could've regrown his missing appendage, but who knows.

This tied to a form is also why the wizards were quite limited in their capabilities and could actually perish if killed.
