Wasn't it legislated in the late 90s—at least in the US—that you had to be at least 13 to use the internet unsupervised? I distinctly remember this being a thing because it caused Yahoo to lock user accounts associated with birthdays that would make the user under 13 at the time—though it could easily be bypassed by providing a false birthday when creating a new account—immediately.

Nothing from the 90s comes to mind, though COPPA was ratified in 2000, so maybe that's what you mean? That's not some sort of blanket ban on minors using the net though, it only pertains to age restrictions for enabling user tracking by companies.

Man, I remember when I started using the internet, that I was limited to a walled garden called "Blinde Kuh" that had a curated list of websites that I could visit.
IMO, that was an actually good solution for allowing children to be online

Well, I've heard that the ads are now blocked in upstream uBlock filters. So that's that.

Well... I don't think we need to worry about that.
They still lack basic functionality like account deletion, such stuff is going to be way beyond
