:shamihuh: will MD start detecting adblockers like youtoob and then doxx the users who blocked ads?

Yes indeed the new custom Dex-chan "Your Ad Here" on mobile is about twice as large as the empty ad frame it replaced.
The site load on mobile is also terrible with the home page taking up to 15 seconds and updates taking 8. Money well spent I see.

I am curious though, what exactly will you be using this ad money for? Where can I view your current funding input and goals?
You removed a huge amount of series a few months ago therefore you need less server space and less throughput handling.

I'm starting to get this kind of feeling something isn't quite right here.
NamiComi (cofounded and run by your own MD dev Tristan9) official takeover after months of unofficial shadow government shit, official subscriptions, mass DMCA purge, setup for expanded advertising (Maybe the subreddit staff shouldnt drop the hint there could be long term ads).....I wonder what could possibly be next:meguupog:

If that's your concern then you should start with the donations - it's far shadier to ask for those while outright refusing to be transparent about how much flows in and how it's spent. Ads are just a way to monetize the user base, which they've been trying to figure out for years now. Looks like NamiComi scheme went far more poorly than expected.

Right click the object to block, select "Block element...", select "Preview", click down the list starting from the top until too much disappears, then click one back up so it blocks the maximum level of what you want blocked.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Dude above gave us a filter rule so it was even easier than that.

My point was that most people won't know what the heck you just said. People underestimate how illiterate people can be on computers.

A "wall of shame" would actually be worth a few chuckles. Sign me up since I took the effort to manually block all such elements on day one and it was somewhat of a pain, only fair I get recognition for that!
I want to be on the top of the list then, I came up with my own filters like a big boy. :wooow:

To be fair, is there a lot of websites doing the same with their ads revenues ?

over a year ago they started taking support by subscriptions to dex chans art corner on NC. according to the achivements, this creator at least at some point had 250 supporters.
even with the lowest level at 5 dollars that would have been 1250 dollar a month through this support.
i subscribed for 20 dollar / month if anybody cares. And no, i did not connect my NC account to my MD account for supporter badge
for a while now (since august iirc) the connection to stripe (credit card payment processor) is "broken"
i can't even manage that subscription because of that.
but at the same time as this connection/ server issue arose, MD started taking support directly.
i can't help but having a bad feeling about this.

To anyone who may be interested, this is a Plykiya post from four years and a half ago detailing monthly costs (1,070$ per month in 2021) just after The Hombre Incident. Without taking into account inflation, traffic since then has only increased (which requires more resources to keep the site fluid, just remember the low loading times from 2023 for instance), a way to deal with the lack of storage was having volunteers sharing part of their local storage 24/7 operative because there was no money for all the increasing costs and of course that situation can't go forever. I haven't digged further (I don't remember the post that talked about upgrades and such, but it's all here in announcements) but I wouldn't be surprised if the yearly maintenance is about 20,000$, taking that into consideration yes, with insufficient donations there's a point where downgrading a site means closing it.

I'm kinda annoyed that they chose this instead of much more user-friendly and cooler methods of getting money.

Also, I do wonder why they have an ad on almost every main site page, when
[...](and it's really not that hard to do with our traffic levels, even a static banner on the homepage would pay the site costs back tenfold),[...]

I'm sure we all understand that hosting and cdns cost money (remember the ToS, folks. No children allowed!). What we don't quite understand is why you, someone unaffiliated feels the need to argue this on behalf of a site, that has no intention of actually coming clean with it's expenses and income. Even worse, a site that has a for-profit company behind it, that is known to have established other streams of ravenue supposedly as support for the site (like those NamiComi subscriptions). Given all that, I think the community that they solicited for money is entitled to demand actual details of this operation, rather than hearing people say "it's for the cause!".

Oh, I also want an update, it's just a shitstorm only makes them want to refrain from giving any explanation. They may have agreed only posting information when time comes, but there's nothing that stops me from dispelling false rumours. Tomorrow all manga sites may be gone and nothing I say will change that, it's just since this is not Twitter/Reddit we can prevent from becoming it.

Maybe they're using the same investment consultant as Spotify and are unable to disclose it.

Make them want to refrain from giving any explanation? What kind of excuse would that be? It's not like this community has just turned up at their doorstep for no reason and asked to see their personal finances. They are the ones with the initiative. A initiative that's shady not only by itself, but in light of recent developments, just plain untrustworthy, as one can see by the feedback in this thread. Detailed explanations are not even the bare minimum that should have been provided a long time ago. The kind of list you linked to was acceptable when the site wasn't pursuing funding from it's user base. Now even if they updated it, it's meaningless - it lacks real details, such as who's providing a given product or service, you know, so that it could potentially be verified. It also doesn't have the amounts and sources of funding and this is the worst part, since there's already good reason to think that they are not actually short on funds, as pointed out by the person talking about the NamiComi subscriptions. And this is just me summarizing broadly, I'm sure I don't need to tell a company what needs to be presented when documenting finances in an honest fashion, they should have plenty of experience with that...

Well, I suppose I can compromise. This isn't the only shitlist I frequent, so let's say you go for quality while I pursue quantity :kek:
