exactly my thought too, with the added bonus bringing home a cute dark elf waifu. (progressing exactly like the pragmatist dark elf king wanted, the king basically sacrificing his own daughter for a political marriage in exchange for an alliance, even though the marriage were only with a marquis family, but the marquis family in question were strong enough in both military and political standpoint, hence practical and realistic enough for him, the king)

That's only for one of the factions, realizing that an alliance with the Empire isn't enough, and that they need something for more concrete and that can immediately be called upon without needing Imperial approval.
And even if a marriage with the Royal Family of the Empire were to happen, like the opposing faction is pushing for, it would still take time to mobilize the Imperial military to support the Dark Elves.

So from the perspective of the factions, it's either "get support that's middling in military strength but can be there immediately" versus "get support that's overwhelming in military strength but will take time to arrive".
So depending on the faction, they don't NEED an alliance with a marquisate when they could angle for a member of the Imperial Family, and already have an alliance with the Empire VS they NEED an alliance with the marquisate so that they have the added deterrence of military reinforcements that can arrive quickly and without strings attached.

Because, as Ridd pointed out, what THEY think and see, in regards to the alliance with the Magnolia Empire, is secondary to what Balst (the enemy nation that they're trying to deter) thinks when they see the alliances that the Dark Elves have made.
