- you get all the XP
- you get all the loot
- you don't have to part-time as a psychoanalyst for your party members who constantly harass you with their personal issues

As a Mount and blade Warband player I really feel the third one but like, it's really fun to befriend companions and take on the world. Besides XP and loot isn't too big of a thing

Fail? He's very successful if you look at the previous chapters. Like hilariously so, even if he seems prone to getting hurt.

Like most protagonists, they are the center of the story. So, they must be dense enough to sustain a gravitational pull of all surrounding characters. Harem leads need to be akin to Jupiter and Saturn with their many, many moons orbiting them.
