The twist is that there was no brainwashing from Towa at all, Reika's just mentally deranged all on her own.

I have a feeling Reika is going to be the first of Ayumi's true troops: wielding her poison powers in some way.

Also its a little interesting she says she remembers and loves Reika (platonically or...?) since we all thought the bug consumed her feelings but maybe it doesn't? Just over shadows it or dampens it perhaps? Either way its interesting to see Reika's bug trying to dye Ayumi. As far as we knew that was a royalty exclusive ability (being exclusively used so far by the only two queens; but, presumably the three princessess who lead the other factions also have this ability)
(also makes me wonder if the queen's strength is higher than a princess, particularly in the ability to resist being converted, since those three seem scared of Towa, though that may be looking too deep into it after what Kyou said back in ch11)

Must be because Reika went overboard with the power release of her bug so she got that power in exchange of going insane, contrary to the queens that have it naturally

If you really think about its actually Reika wish to protect Ayumi and not left behind but also twisted. Reika probably subconsciously want to protect Ayumi by being stronger and doesn't get protected by Ayumi instead but it's get twisted. Think about it if Ayumi dyed white again it's mean she won't be queen and won't be at the danger of being queen (remember the other queen fate's) and it also mean Reika is stronger than Ayumi so she won't be able to let go of her hand just like the flashback. Heck even before Ayumi became a queen and Reika already a butterfly, Ayumi in a way unable to let go of her mind of Reika and that just like how Reika wish was on this flashback

Ah so this manga adapts the WN straight and it did not have any LN adaptation prior. Understood.

Such a shame, the story seems like it's just picking up with the establishment of factions and a new goal. I hope they continue in some way.

It still could. I don't know if anyone has more info. It's just that I noticed no one mentioned the note at the end about the next chapter. Even if it followed the WN, I would assume 1 more volume, but I guess we'll see.
