Glad the closest I've ever been to a bear was seeing a grizzly scarf down a squirrel from the safety of a bus in Denali. You'd think once it starts feeding they would be able to slink away without too much difficulty and come back once the carcass is stripped.

If this is drawn from real events, then the deer stripping the lower kyoto forests really is a problem. It all started with covid, when people stopped coming, the free handouts at the temples also stopped and the deer were encouraged to move back to the forests. It was a big deal and there was even talk about "sending some messengers back to the gods" aka culling them out of site of tourist eyes. Now the problem is bears and more people have died from bear attacks this year than anything else (besides old age).

This chapter is recent (2025)? I recalled the bear attack "intensified" in 2025. Either way this seems to be a touchy subject for a manga since a bunch of people died . And here I thought the boars are getting too many there in japan, they should relocate a bunch of deer and boars to the bear attack area.Some food for them but deer maybe a better animal though, since boars are assholes.

Still going - I own the next 7 volumes 😹 . It did change names to Kitsune no Oyome-chan and Son because he got her pregnant before Goro and Kogane managed.

This volume came out in 2019, though, so while you saw it happening it wasn't quite full on bearpocalypse yet.

So not quite covid then and the quarantine apocalypse had on the deer population hadnt happened yet. I was in Nara in 2018 and the deer were everywhere and I mean everywhere. It makes me wonder then if the forest issue was observed and incorporated as a plot point, or conceived as a plot point based on known woodcraft.
