it's "boring" because if the Dong-gu grew even half of a spine, he and Chaerin would be pretty far along in their relationship
I need to vent to feel a little better, sorry that it comes as reply to your reply. And you don't need to read it anyway, since it's not aimed at you, but you're welcome if you want and want to share your own views.
TL;DR: To the rest of readers. Don't read it, if you're prone to anger and attacking someone based on their opinion/views of the story. You're welcome if you want to debate and have civil talk, otherwise don't bother.
Yes I am on Esther ship when it comes to ship wars, but after ch43 that ship sunk anyway, but enough of that.
We all know Joy is the "end-game" heroine, but NOTHING meaningful happens between her and Max to make that feel earned or exciting. It's just dragging on and we never learn anything what Joy thinks or why she avoids answering basic questions like 'age, likes, past' etc. And now that Esther got sidelined after that bullshit colleague zone in ch43, the story's back to crappy, predictable slop. Why does it need to take 100 chapters to learn something basic about Joy? Wtf.
Esther at least added uncertainty and made me question if the ending was set in stone - now that it's gone it's back to just boring "main hero + main heroine" trash like 99% of other series.
My problem with main ship and why I find it unlikable:
They have zero arguments or even deep talks that actually build a bond, it's all just surface-level politeness and it makes it predictable which once again adds another layer of 'booooooring'. He has never shown any emotions before Joy - Esther asked him if he has shown any of those to Joy which he has shown to her and he replied he did not, which exactly proves my point. He can open up fully with Esther making the scenes feel more real and alive, when with Joy is him sweating like a fucking idiot.
Now about my growing dislike for Max:
He is stupid and indecisive. This guy doesn't know what he wants. One minute he cancels a date with Joy to take care of Esther treating her like a friend, and the next he's severing their friendship because he cares about some shit rumors? Grow some balls, dude - either confess to Joy already or deny the speculation. Problem solved and I could like you again. And yet he does the exact opposite, which makes him unlikable and annoying to me. I have couple more arguments, but it would take too long to list them.
Now about why I feel my dislike growing for Joy:
Joy hides everything and doesn't trust Max. She isn't willing to share basic shit like her age, past (which part of only came out because of her high school friend, if not for that we would still know nothing), or likes/dislikes, even giving her name wasn't so simple to give. It shows that she doesn't trust Max enough to share with him these things, and it also feels to me like she's just using him to her advantage (group project for a better job). Is that called 'healthy relationship' today by following those standards?, if yes I am happy my relationship isn't shit like this <hurray>. My other problem with her is, If she knows Esther likes Max (after all those scenes we got, she literally has to know) and if somehow she doesn't, she isn't even willing to confront Esther about it or try to dig a little. But assuming she knows, so why not push Esther to confess and get closure? As 'friends' Esther deserves at least that much, even if it ends in rejection. Unless Joy never treated Esther as a friend in the first place. To me Joy comes off as insecure, passive and unsymphatetic cause of that.
To me, the author doesn't seem to know how love works or should work, and it shows in creating a story where wearing a mask to hide your emotions, not trusting, and hiding everything equals "love" - pushing the Max-Joy ship as canon based on those shitty principles just screams bad writing. To me love = (show your true self, have trust in your partner, don't hide anything before your partner, fight together the problems life throws at you, have courage to protect the one you love no matter what). So as you can see how I see it, you should see that none of the conditions is satisfied to our main ship, so my dislike is understandable.
