Who are all these grandpas in this thread totally derailing it? "Bakad Banana?" "bigshittyoneesan?"

Can we go back to the cute little game ads 😔 even though I never bought any of them and never will at least theyre not assaulting my eyes
You will get your AI slop simulator that consumes a small African village's worth of electricity for each prompt and you will learn to like it.

I don't mind, it's not like there's any valid ethic posture to be held in a pirated content forum, which probably consumes more electricity to be kept alive than this gooner AI chat gf scam. Also, realistically, who is going to consume that content? Chances are it's a money laundering operation.

please grow up.

Between the moralities of AI "art" and scanlations of manga/manhwa online:

theres a pretty big difference between using various people's art and work to generate something effortlessly and claim it as your own and translating a work that many times you would not be able to access (like works that dont have any official translations) while making no money from it and still crediting the original artists. Theres a whole other thread here talking about the ethics of scanlating, but I think we all know that the ethics of genAI are pretty set in stone.

And you cant just throw away the fact that something is being advertised simply because you think that no one is going to click it anyway, any kind of positive platforming for this is not good, especially when the content being shoved in our faces is AI tiddies

ai is genuinely ruining the whole damn world right now, not just because I’m pissed at the ram and ssd prices, but also because of the huge amounts of energy it requires for the average person to NEVER use it. Yes, it can be helpful in some enterprise scenarios, but the average user doesn’t use it at all. It’s gotten so bad that one of the literal villains of computing (dell) said themselves that ai isn’t being used by practically anyone, and that they would stop focusing on it. Plus, it ruins people socially, because they think that the positive feedback loop applies to real life, which only destroys relationships and friendships.

(Mb for the wall of text that’s probably harder to read than hieroglyphics I’m just really pissed)

I am all for the inclusion of banner ads, but AI ads are a new low I did not expect. I say no to AI ads asking me to get an AI girlfriend, and I hope any supporters or would be supporters like myself think the same.
BRUH, be glad it's this for now. I'd rather have this than how Mangareader turned out in the end. It was just porn, scams, and viruses. If you want this to stop, give Mangadex more money. they're not exactly maintaining this site for free you know!

throwing in my two cents against ads using or promoting generative ai/llms. absolutely disrespectful not only to artists who bring us the comics we all come to md for, but also the translators and editors bridging the gap for little to no pay.

AI Shoujo or AI Kanojo from Illusion may have generated many memes, but some AI generator? I invoke elBarto's words "working only with carefully chosen partners" to say they should work with eroge developers, because they want to support creators. Children should learn where quality comes from.

Hi everyone
After considerable internal backlash from multiple staff members (myself included), we've decided to remove the current ad campaign from the website.
Thank you to everyone who expressed their disagreement and concerns about this AI-slop ad, as this has helped us provide concrete evidence to support our arguments.

The ad should be gone in a bit (1h max), leaving the placeholder with the 2 little dorks visible again. :meguu:

Update / Clarification (2026-01-13)

I've received further information from management regarding the specifics of this campaign, and I want to provide a correction and some context:

  1. First of all and to set the record straight, this campaign was actually a scheduled one-day experiment, which has now concluded naturally.
  2. Furthermore, we've noted that the landing page for the ad did not align with the banner content initially whitelisted (specifically regarding content maturity). We will be much more vigilant about verifying that landing pages match the ads we approve moving forward.

A note on how you can help:
Obviously, the most direct way to avoid ads is to become a Supporter. Beyond just hiding ads for yourself, having a larger supporter base allows us the financial freedom to be infinitely more picky with the partners we accept and, with enough direct support, we can afford to reject questionable campaigns like this one outright.

Heh this thread is good confirmation for my "Never turn off uBlock" rule. Even if some site literally begs for it.
If you're too lazy to manage your ads I'm too lazy to un-uBlock you.
Since my very first day on the internet I never seen single site really managing their ads.
