Mangadex to purge titles for legal reasons

Stop the misinformation. Titles being removed depict sexual activity between characters that are minors, either in appearance (handled on a case-by-case basis) or confirmed in the dialogue. It's about law and compliance with it. If you jerk it off to little kids, go and do it elsewhere; there are sites that specialise in that.

Staff note: Please refer to the following post for a somewhat less unsavoury follow up on this.

Just noticed this post is edited by the mods haha.

Can you guys just bin this guy? Zero PR training, antagonizing users and uploaders alike, also made you mods working overtime for no reason lol.

Neither reaction is fine (from both sides), one side for not thinking properly what (and how) to reply to questions related to an ongoing issue, and the other side also for just escalating the argument into a fight.
No this isn't both sides, this is YOU mods removing a manga because YOU think its "problematic" then calling all users on this thread paedophiles over fiction so either give us a official apology and give us our manga back or we get the lawyers to sue MD and every one of you for very liable defamation which has some serious real world implications.

Sure, as I said, all this mainly blew up due to the aforementioned unsavoury comments which shouldn't have happened at all, so we also understand why they're angry about it (heck, we also are).
And yet, after such a blatant breach of professionalism, putting the entire MangaDex staff under fire... EtherealNeko doesn't even get a slap on the wrist? No punishment at all? No demotions? Nothing?

When a Japanese CEO messes up, they resign. This is standard practice, and should be standard practice. Being an admin on a website is far less important than a CEO, yet you are treating EtherealNeko better than a CEO.

If EtherealNeko had said something racist or transphobic that the MangaDex staff disagrees with, EtherealNeko would have been booted immediately.

So the fact that they haven't been booted proves that the MangaDex staff does in fact agree with EtherealNeko's stance.

Well, I can confidently say that the Ship of Theseus has set sail. This is no longer the MangaDex that I signed up for, and likely hasn't been for some time.

I do not care for loli/shota, but they have always served well as a canary in the coalmine. When they are targeted like this, it's always a telltale sign of inevitable decay. Once that threshold is crossed, the next becomes easier.

I will say that the stated criteria of "looks young" and "is clearly under 18" applies to the vast majority of manga produced. Are we going to see a mass deletion of ecchi in general? Any romcom that takes place in high school? What about all the lewd scenes in isekai slop? If these rules are to be held consistent, then this site should be gutted.

"Expressly". Not "Expressively", which would be calling someone a pedophile with a great deal of emotion.

wasn't a great deal of emotion?

also if you don't like our change = you jerk off to little kids
you jerk off to little kids = you are a pedo
if you don't like our change = you are a pedo

you don't need to say word per word

Jumping back here because my previous post had a sentence that was poorly worded and came off as too much of a personal attack or moral grandstanding. I also didn't provide enough context on the content being removed, so that's on me.

I've been reading some of the replies, and thank you for voicing your opinions and concerns, whether in this thread or elsewhere. Users want clarification on the removals, so please find it below.

We were made aware of content that goes against our content policy, specifically clause 3.1.1 regarding underage characters in pornographic settings. The content that was removed, and some content still being reviewed, includes entries labelled Mature, with characters that are engaging in sexual intercourse and either:
  • They are clearly very young in appearance, and the content does not confirm that they are adults.
  • The content itself confirms that they are under the age of 18.
Nothing else is being examined at this time. We're currently exploring options to retain the title entry and other non-infringing metadata, but for now, we need to proceed with the removal.
So basically the ONLY content that will be removed are those labeled as "Mature", meaning basically doujinshis, and only those who have lolis in it?

If that's it then it's fine but i gotta say, wtf did you drink that day? i mean, i know you heard this a lot already but did you Honestly thought the best way to approach this was going full Anti, equating lolis to children and saying/implying that anyone who disagree is a pedo? i mean, ffs...well, at least you realized it, that is something, i feel like more clarity would have avoided a whole lot of trouble.

Why stop at lolisho? Rape is bad too go remove that. Ryona is also problematic remove that. Guro is problematic definitely remove that. Age gap romance is weird, remove that. Stories with slaves are problematic, just remove every single one with those. Its only fair right? This is what you admins want right?
That's probably the plan indeed. Unless it's a big series... Those can stay

Look, we all grew up here. I know it's your job to clean up for the company's face. So, let me make it straight, one of your colleague bring harm to the company's reputation, and your customer want to see some proof that action has been taken to reprimand the behaviour.
So far, we saw nothing from the prepetrator, we (as in customers) only saw peformative behaviour from her and white knighting from mod and supporters.
When did MD become a simp zone? Where are all those PR/HR trainings? The company is so cheap la, using unpaid volunteer mods i suppose?

You hit the nail on the head, these people are cocksuckers who will call you paedophile without actually calling you a paedophile and will lie to your face about calling you a paedophile over a fictional character and all because it was unfairly removed because the mods think its "problematic" bull fucking shit.

So this shows a pretty basic level ignorance of how the court system in the US actually works. Taking a case to court is fucking EXPENSIVE. Even if the material SHOULD be protected by 1st Amendment, proving that the law infringes on it wouldn't be cheap. Lawyers cost money.
It's a good thing that there are several organizations in America dedicated to protecting free speech (such as the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund) which will pay for legal fees even if you cannot afford it.
